On some other threads, people are talking about what they would have done with today's shooting. Lets start by stating the obvious. Mass shootings are occurring and each one seems to be trying go up the body count or do it different. However "rare" they are, they are too common. So what can we, as a society, do to stop these? I have seen one here: http://articles.cnn.com/2007-12-10/us/colorado.shootings_1_gunman-security-guard-casings?_s=PM:US Where an armed person stopped the assailant, but after 2 people (teenage girls) were killed and a 3rd person shot. The perp killed two before that. We have seen since Columbine that the police cannot stop it before too much carnage has occurred. In general, gun owners are against additional gun control. Many people are also against infringing on someones right until after they commit a crime. So, what can we, as a society, do within the confines of a free society do to prevent this type of thing? I am not trying to start a flame war. I would actually like people to add useful, thoughtful responses. Myself, I am stuck on what to do. Its clear what we are doing isn't working so well, but I don't know what to do differently unless places with large groups of people together (basically over 30ish people) would have guards to protect them?
