I do not use IE...instead either FireFox or Netscape 7.2.
Actually, I removed IE (at least hopefully) from my system.
I regularly run the following several times per week (often daily):
    CrapCleaner
    Ad-Aware
    SpyBot/SpyBlaster

and follow up with a WebRoot Spy Audit. This has always given a low vulnerability score, but shows the following as being present:

    1) Httper
    2) Vxl(transponder)
    3) WebSearch Toolbar

Additionally, I have SpywareGuard running constantly.

Today, a new one has appeared: 4) NeededWare

I have run all of the above anti-spy programs, including Ad-Aware in deep-scan mode, with no success. I have no idea where this came from and would appreciate an evaluation of the four spy programs I have been unable to remove. Additionally, any information as to how to remove these would be appreciated.

D/L and run Spyware Doctor - it won't remove the spyware automatically, but it will give you a detailed list of all the files and registry entries that you need to delete to remove them manually.

There is no one program that will clear up all spyware. Here are some the I use as a sys admin: Spybot, Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, PestPatrol, and Microsoft Antispware... Microsofts Antispyware works pretty good and its free.

FWIW, I had some spyware that programs would say were removed but would keep coming back.

I wrote down the file names & booted into safe mode with command prompt (XP) and deleted the files that way. Seems much better now.

That's all I ever use it for...you Do need IE if you run any Windows, and you DO need to keep it updated and searchbar-free...

BTW, Hijack This will find that Websearch and NeededWare crap for you.

Just make sure you aren't removing anything useful in the process!
