Other than the obvious big ones (Masada, The Wall, the Dead Sea, etc) what are some absolute musts when in Israel? Good places to eat?

    1) Stay away from Gaza
    2) Always keep one eye watching the sky to the east, north, and south
    3) Watch out for nervous, sweaty arab guys in unusually heavy clothing

Sharon, I work with a girl from Israel. I will ask her tomorrow. Anything in particular you would like me to ask?

We are going in the summer (ack!).

Kathy, that'd be awesome. My SIL was most interested in FOOD, but we're looking for sort of off radar things to do. We'll be there for roughly two weeks.

eta; No one has ANYTHING solid planned. We are going to do a guide thing as opposed to a group tour, so we can pick and choose what we want to do.

There are a couple places that Jesus may have been entombed. The Dome of the Rock. Lots of interesting shops in Old Jerusalem. The Museum. Bethlehem. When I was there in the 80s I went to Jericho but I think that is in Palestinian territory.

When I went there, I was 20, 5 years ago, so my interests probably differed from yours. But I found the Golan to be very beautiful, and the city of Zefat is nearby. Also camel riding in the negev desert and rafting down the jordan river. But of course I also don't remember being sober.
