I know Speer is good but what else? what do you all recommend for Glock 9mm?
I like SGD as well. That being said, any top tier 9mm JHP will do it's part if you do yours. (Even the "lowly" FMJ has been killing people dead for a long time.)
Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, Winchester Ranger/Ranger-T, Winchester PDX1 are the big four, IMO.
The bigger question is which can you get ahold of? PDX1 and Gold Dots are easiest.
Fire at least 100-200 rounds to verify function and learn the recoil.
Pretty much any modern hollow point from a good company will work well. I like Cor-Bon Pow'R Ball.
I kinda get pissed because Speer Gold Dots are always out when I go to any local gun shop or some don't even carry it. and when they run out they take there time ordering a new supply. Also heard Hornady has some good ammo but never see them in stock either. always the cheap bargain ammo in stock everywhere.
Remington Golden Saber is very good in any caliber. Also Magtech. (The FBI stats for kills by bullet type is vailable online, which is where I got my info on Golden Saber. At the time, Golden Saber was rated #1 for one-shot kills, I believe.)
I cannot verify any of the data below. Just something I came across. I carry 147gr Remington Golden Saber. It hits dead center on steel plates at 50yds in my G26 and expands and penetrates nicely during my backyard testing.
Try gunbroker for ammo if you cant find any.
I go with Speer Gold dots
I like Corbon 115gr +P
Don't rely just on a name.
There is no such thing as the 'Golden BB'!
Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Winchester. All are good names.
Get something that feeds/functions 100% in your pistol. Not 99%. 100%.
Then, concentrate on shot placement and training.
Me???? In my 9mm pistols, well, a quantity of the Federal 9BPLE 115 gr +P+ fell into my hands many years ago. (And they function 100%!)
thanks for the responses guys
I like Gold dots and Hornady Critical defense, I was really impressed with the CD when I fired it through a pair of jeans and into some milk jugs, the slug looked likee it came out of the catalog.
i prefer 124 gr. +p gold dots.
Gold Dot, HST, Ranger T, PDX1 are four good choices If they work in your pistol. They work in my guns.
I use anything from 147gr Hydra-Shoks and Gold Dots to 124gr+p Ranger T's. I don't really feel one is better than the other as long as it 100% reliable and I can hit what I'm aiming at. And what ever is available at the time plays a big role.
yeah a buddy of mine recommended the Critical Defense and i read up on them and they look like some good rounds.
Winchester Ranger SXT or T-series +P+ and Federal 9BPLE +P+ are my top two choices.
Hornady Critical Defense
Your best defense is practice, practice, practice. Without it the best ammo is just metal that missed.
