I had some time to kill in the airport.

A new fast food place is being built (Smashburger).

The logo is "The new way to burger"

What is up nowadays with using nouns as verbs? This is just crazy.

    I mean I walk. I don't "floor".

Sitting is not a new way to "chair".

I don't know why this bothers me, but it does.

Similarly, perhaps, I am not fond of nouns being used as verbs. One gives or offers a gift. One does not gift. Possibly one may even present a present.

I'm not going to dig, too deep on this one, but FWIW. In the past 20+ years, there's been a general and overall bastardization, of the English language that I was taught, starting in first grade. 1960. I'm all for a reasonable amount of informality on forums, emails, texts, etc. However, like the OP, signs, tv commercials, you name it, that totally butcher basic grammar, just make it harder for children to attempt to learn proper use of verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and so on. Maybe it's not a prerequisite for education anymore. I really don't know. What I do know is that over twenty years ago, I was trying to explain the "Toys R Us" sign, to my 7 year old who was struggling in grammar.

The English language is constantly changing. You would have trouble understanding a simple polite conversation of the 1800'smuch less so of 1700 English. And if you live to be 150, our descendants may not understand us.

Maybe this is becoming colloquial. That's how it was described to me here a few days ago, when I called into question the rampantly incorrect use of the word "stupid", e.g. "you can't fix stupid" or "the stupid is strong", etc. NO! Stupidity!

Maybe I just don't colloquial that well, I dunno. :dunno:

Could it be that an ever growing segment of society is totally illiterate, never learned math, and does not even speak the language of the country they have infiltrated?

Maybe we should present a present in the present, and have presence of mind to care.
