What 6000 planes in the sky at the same time looks like on a map

I like the single plane in the South Atlantic heading toward Antarctica (guessing?) And the line of planes filing into and out of Hawaii. I'm watching the real-time feed right now and you can see a line of westbound departures head toward Midway before turning.

Keep in mind this only shows planes equipped with certain transponders. Probably why Africa is so quiet, surely there are SOME planes flying around there.

Interesting that apparently only the U.S. requires the five-minute delay.

I was flying in one of only 12 aircraft airborne in the US Sept 12th 2001.

Next time I'm up real late I'll watch the map for Louisville (UPS) and Memphis (FedEx).

I've stayed in Louisville near the airport and the continuous take offs around 3-4am is unbelievable.

Now that's pretty neat. Saw a large icon on the map near my house and go outside and there the plane is. With the setting sun shining on it, I could see a little pink color to it. Came back in and figured out that when you click the icon for a particular plane it gives info on it and some of them even have a picture of it. So I saw this one. London to Dallas flight.

I lived in the flight path in Memphis, just outside of the airport. Their landing lights shined in my bedroom window. It sucked.

Maybe one of the most high speed jobs ever and you better not ever screw up.

Are those the guys that use the dot com call sign? I hear dot com on the radio all the time but can't figure out who that is.

Yeah, I want to try that tomorrow but here in the U.S. the data is delayed five minutes. Still, might be able to catch a high flyer.

Something else cool on that site: click a plane icon and it gives you all the stats. There is a button to launch "cockpit view". Gives you a Google Earth flyover.

Cool link...gonna check it out again when the storm rolls out of here. No activity around here and I'm assuming it's because of that.

The dotcom call sign is owned by fltpln.com. You pay them a fee and dotcom xxx becomes your callsign.
