Almost 5 thousand "white privileged" people killed in one battle. While walking around the grounds and thinking about the sacrifices these mostly very young patriots made I was actually overwhelmed and had to sit down for a few minutes.

BLM and the reparationists can kiss my lilly white saggy old ass !!!

The HUGE statue of the soldier in the middle of the cemetery was simply jaw dropping

Couple years ago I visited the battlefield at Vicksburg. It was fascinating and above all, sobering. But the thing I came away with was that all who fell there were honored. The war ended long ago and what remained was reverence for the fallen, regardless of the side they took. Saddens me that some folks today don't get that.

I took that as sarcasm related to blm/antifa/random vandals trying to erase history/cause mayhem. I could be wrong.

    Thank you for remembering......

I have at least 4 ancestors that fought in that war. 2 of them were wounded and recovered. All survived the war and came home to live full lives.

Visited Antietam a few years ago on a glorious early fall day. It's a beautiful place, masking the horror that took place there.
    God Bless all who fell.

My 2G uncle was killed and buried there. Justus Wellington.

OP- did you see this monument there? It is for the 15th Massachusetts. His name is on the lower left corner. I've never been there. I suppose I should go.

I've toured many Civil War battlefields, some, like Gettysburg, multiple times.

Antietam is a special place, even among the other parks.

I see it is an hour from my cousin in Monrovia. Perhaps a road trip is in order.
