Well, Friday I got the call. I'm starting the transition to a new chapter in life.

This Friday, I turn in my credentials and leave law enforcement. I start working in EMS on Monday, for a large, busy, metropolitan agency. Over the last few months/year, I've come to realize that I don't want to spend the rest of my working life behind the fence. I always had an interest in EMS work, and I put myself into an EMT course at the first of the year. I've also been working event first aid for about a year now, part-time, and I think I found it. What I enjoy, and can see myself doing for the rest of my career.

    So, here it goes!

Man, I hope it wasn't here.

We just had a girl start our academy because we pay better, and are treated better. That's saying a lot, too.

    Wes,

It was. I did my ride time for my license there, and I have a friend that's been there for a while. The main reason I looked there is they do paramedic school in house, and pay you to go to it. After the BS I've been dealing with at the joint, I can deal with some BS for a while to get my medic certification and license.

Congrats, hope you've found your calling. Nothing better than doing something you enjoy for a living..

And saving lives as a bonus can't be beat.

Thanks for your service, and for that which is to come.

Congrats! As a former EMT, I can tell you it's a blast. I was enrolled in Paramedic school when I got hired by my PD and police is where my heart was. In house and getting paid is a huge benefit! Enjoy it. And just remember, when you're saving some mope that probably doesn't deserve to live, do your best anyways and chalk it up to practice for when the good guys need you.

    Have fun!

Dude, that's awesome. At the end of the day you've got to go where your heart is. I did EMS for about four years as a basic EMT. Wasn't quite for me, but overall I found it to be an enjoyable experience.

Lemme know if you need help studying, I'm an EMS instructor.

Let me know if you need help studying for your eventual firefighter class.. no one stays straight EMS for long :)

I have long maintained that a desire to be a EMS/firefighter was evidence that the person isn't "straight".

    Thanks for confirming.

    Good luck bro!
