Lit a fire this morning, opened a book and then heard the hiss of death. Water heater vessel ruptured! Nearest replacement is two hours away so she's going to go get it while I pull the old one out. Just great...HH

Man...that's a bummer, but at least it crapped out while you were home. It would be a heck of a mess if it blew while you were at work and had several hours to leak into the house.

Is it an electric or gas fired unit?

Not really too bad a job changing one out, but at least for me, on projects like that, there is always one or two fittings required that I don't have on hand, and requires another trip to the hardware store.

You could always drain it and replace it tomorrow. Who needs hot water anyway?

OK. Old one's in the driveway and the Mrs. should be back before 3 with the new one. Went with a 40 this time. (NG). HH

Glad that didn't end up worse than it did.... Do you have high water pressure? above 60? Check up on your new heater from time to time, I do every six months--flush and refill check the burner etc pressure relief valve etc.... I bet your wife will be happy to take a longer hot shower now.

Just replaced mine about 4 Months ago...

I had to pay to hve mine done as Plumbing and I do not mix...

If I touch it it will for sure leak... I'm pretty decent on house wiring, low voltage and Home and Car Audio wiring just not plumbing...

Well, that was fun. It's 20:50 and it's all done. The 40 is three inches wider than the old 30 so it had to be completely replumbed (cold in, hot out, gas in and vent out). This time I put ballcocks in the ins and outs so it can be isolated if this happens again (had to turn the house off at the curbstop all day). It's cooking as wee speak. HH
