I have to be honest, I was a bit old school. I loved 1911s. I hated the plastic guns. I still remember US Marshalls when Tommy Lee Jones was like "Get yourself a glock" and the young guy was like "Nah I like mine better" and it was a big beretta I believe.

About a couple months ago I got a Springfield XD9 just to check out what polymer was and how it did. Pretty nice gun, accurate, night sights, a little too big for my tastes for CCW but definitely enjoyable to shoot. A good glovebox gun or night stand gun for sure.

But on Monday I got my NIB/Military discount Glock 30 with night sights.

So far I've put 150 rounds through it with 1 hickup. I know it was the round because I put it in the middle of 2 different magazines and the same round malfunctioned both times. FWIW it was a winchester white box from 2004.

Anyway, other than that, there have been no issues at all. Actually at the NRA 50 yard slow fire pistol target I had all 10 rounds inside the freakin X ring at 30 feet! That little 1" circle or whatever it is? And I'm not bragging about me, its the pistol! I love it...I still don't have a big love for the full size glocks but this G30 has become my EDC gun and I'm confident with it.

One question though, I am new to carrying (stationed in Hawaii, can only carry in my home state of Florida when Im on leave) and I am using Speer Gold Dot 230gr Jacketed HP. Is this decent? Do some put a mix of HP and FMJ in their mags or is that mostly for AKs and truck guns and such? Oh, and disregard the holster. I learned quickly its garbage :)

Congrats on a fine new gun and nice shooting. I am more accurate with my G30 than all of my other glocks and can very consistently (>95%) score center mass kill zone/ring shots on full size silhouette targets @ 15 yards with it. Gold dot 230gr JHPs is what I carry in the G30 and I've researched them to be as good or better than any "defense" rounds out there. If the thread goes on long enough you will find someone who swears "this round at this grain is the best" but you are good to go.

Thanks for your service! I had a packet ready to re-enlist and go to Hawaii but my unit got stoplossed and ended up getting out after Iraq to pursue more lucrative opportunities.

I carry Speer Gold Dot 230gr Jacketed HP in my G30. Seems to feed well in my pistol. Do yourself a favor a get yourself a better holster.

Hawaii was nice, for a year. Then after Iraq, it was nice again for a few months. Now its just getting boring and expensive...

Welcome! And congrats on a great gun! I have a G30SF and love the way it shoots - very mild recoil and very accurate!

Speer gold dot is a very good choice for defensive ammo. Many police departments use this and it seems to be accurate.

    Happy shooting!

    Welcome, and nice choice! I don't have a Glock in ACP but I am also a '1911 guy' with Glocks in 9mm, 357 SiG, and 45 GAP. 124+P GDHP's in 9mm, 125 GDHP's in 357, 200 GDHP's in GAP, and 230 GDHP's in 1911's. In law enforcement they call that a clue...

I love this gun guys, now I understand why theres forums about it and everything. I mean after today when I put my entire first mag all in the x ring I just...you know, had to change my shorts and stuff.

There is an awful lot of muzzle flash though, is this normal?

Try some different ammo regarding the muzzle flash, if it bothers you.
The sick part is the 30 shoots smoother than the full size 21. You picked a winner.

    Thank you for your service!

Glock 30s a great gun I've put alot of rounds though mine and the only malfunction ever was without a magazine in the gun.

    Congrats and enjoy,

The G30 was my Glock purchased (third overall behind the G21SF and CZ). Great gun. It will not disappoint you.

    Now, buy a G20

+1 You chose wisely. Thank you for your service, and by the way I love both my 30 sf and 36!
