OK.. need some help on a truly bizarre idea...

Let me give you all a quick bit of background so you can give me your best thoughts..

A little while back I had learned that Magnum Research was bringing all production of the Desert Eagle to the US and Israeli made Desert Eagles were soon potentially going to be a thing of the past... (for the record currently there are only "black finished desert eagles coming in from iwi in 44 mag and 50 ae [no 357 models or other finishes available on new eagles made in Israel ]

Anyway as i always loved them I quickly put 2 brand new IWI Israeli made mark xixs on layaway. One in 50 ae, and one in 44 mag.

I completed paying off the 50 ae, and I have already shipped it off for polished hard chrome refinishing. [As again like I said, new Israeli models are only available in black as they wrap up production].

So i am going to finish paying off the 44 mag this week and i have really started thinking, it seems just nuts to have 2 of them, and I've tied up quite a bit of cash as you would image... HOWEVER, I do want to shoot 44 mag as well..

    Sooooo here is my plan:

When I receive the 44 mag model, I am going to remove the barrel and magazine to use with the 50 ae model I have and I am planning on selling the "lower, or really the rest of the 44 mag de....

I know this sounds completely insane but it seems like the best option for me...

What do you think a legitimate reasonable price to ask for an unfired desert eagle, without the barrel and without the mag would be?

    Thanks

Well, I bought my lightly used (really as new) IMI .50 for $650.... So I dunno. It seems that the uppers are sought after because of the caliber flexibility, I don't know that I've ever seen a frame for sale.

Don't know much about their work. I use Metaloy and also have a Colt that was hardchromed by Virgil Tripp, back when he did finishing. I've heard and seen good things from AP Cogan and have a buddy who'd having a ground up custom being built by Clark as I type, that is going to off to Cogan for hardchroming when it's done. Big hardchrome fan here.

Fords is the company that magnum research uses for all of their stuff (if you send anything to mr for refinishing, that's where it goes) so to me it made sense..

I didn't even know any of them were still being made in Israel, never looked that much into getting one but now I want one.

Unfortunately I already have two guns coming in this week that weren't cheap and possibly a third I have been waiting on awhile...wallet is suffering.

ETA: If you can at all afford it I would keep both complete guns.

I spoke to the folks over at fords last week and they said mine was being worked on... I'll call tomorrow to see if the damn thing is done..

I did pay the extra money for jeweled trigger, hammer and safety levers... figured I might as well go for all the BLING I could

Once its back, I'll ultimately ship the 44 up to them for the same treatment

I'm not big on jeweled parts, but they would look at home on the DE.

That gun is all about excess.

I must admit.. its really a tear between the two...

The 50 is the big kahuna so to speak so I had to have it... but now that I also have the 44 and have shot it, I must say the 44 is a dream.

I shot 50 rounds through it in a row and it was horrifyingly accurate... also the gun tolerates the 44 mag recoil like nothing..

50ae seems to get a little out of control but I am hoping I get better with some more practice...

The point I am making is that if you get the 44 you wont be sorry....
