    I have a question, I purchased a web hosting account to simply store files offsite and host downloads if needed. I am a newb when it comes to this and wondering how to link the file to be able to download once i have uploaded it to my site via "public_html"

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    You can access this files remotely with the FTP software you used to uplaod the files onto the web (more secure as only you will have access).

    Or, you can provide a link on an index.html page that links to the file.

    <a href="#filenamepathgoeshere.doc">This is a word document!</a>

    Furthermore an ordered list would make the files look nice on the page... here is the basic code you need...

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My Files</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <ul>
    <li><a href="#path1">path1 desc</a> </li>
    <li><a href="path2">path2 desc</a> </li>
    <li><a href="pathn">pathn desc</a> </li>
    </ul>
    </body>
    </html>

    **** Save that file as index.html and upload it to the root of your public_html folder.

    you should be able to access the page directly from www.yoururl.com after that.

    Are you just wanting a page to view them for yourself so you can download them, or for others to see? If your site doesn't just show you the list of files in the folder when there isn't an index.html page, let me know and I'll show you how to just have the server return a default list of files.

    That way you don't have to constantly update an HTML file if all you want is a listing, like this:
    http://fishous.com/boards/
