    From the article:
“It’s hurt everybody that has a vehicle there,” said Harry Devore, assistant chief at the Wilson Volunteer Fire Company in Lyndhurst.

His company used an $189,000 FEMA grant to equip a tanker chassis - a truck skeleton with front cab and engine. A group of Wilson firefighters found it last week parked on the New Lexington lot. With key in hand, they cranked up the engine and drove it home."

Was that your department? Although the situation is so bad with all the departments, that is kind of funny. Sometimes you gotta love volunteer firemen....

    Scott,

I feel sorry for your department. It is sad to see so many small and even large fire departments hurt by a manufacturer like that.

My VFD just went out and purchased a 2006 75' quint. It sounds like we got a good deal, but unfortunately we (the chief, and officers) jumped at the first truck they saw. Didn't even bother to look at any others even though I went through and got a list of demos for them.

Good luck trying to get a new tanker.

We have the truck back, partially done. Pierce is going to finish it. And a performance bond WILL be part of the contract.....

Seems they either lied to us about making progress on the truck, or they stripped it before we got it back. We have a bare chassis. Want to follow this case closely. At least some of the money she stole was FEDERAL grant money.....

    Damn, what luck

Our neighboring dept got bit like this several years ago when EEI in North Carolina went out of business. Ever since then our SOP has been to buy the chassis from the manufacturer and have the title in hand if something goes wrong.

I just went though about two years of "buying a truck". I think I aged several years though out. Here's what the results were.

    Our new Engine

It is a Freightliner Business Class M2 chassis. New Lexington DID work on the body, but had not mounted it. We are trying to get them to release the body to us, so we can have Pierce (I think) finish the tanker.....

The bank that foreclosed on the New Lexington people wants us to BID on our body, that we already paid for. Gee, what a country.....

We have a lawyer involved. And our payments that were sent were FEDERAL grant money.....

Probably worst thing is our old tanker is now out of service, because of a BAD leak that we couldn't fix in house.....

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I truly feel sorry for you. I was once on a department that had crap for equipment, not saying that you do, but just saying. Now I am on a department with some of the best equipment money can buy, and I love it! Heck, our worst equipment is better than anything my old dept. ever had.

Kinda like the kid who grow up with nothing, got a killer job and now has everything!

    I wish you luck Sir!!!

We got the current tanker fixed. So that is off our backs for right now. Just has been a recurring problem. But we hope we got it now.....
