It was about 70 dollars a year ago for 500 rounds of 9mm
Yep, at least those of us that have sufficient stocks of primers.
Good points. The nice thing about having an inventory of reloading components, esp powder amd primers, is versatility to use supplies to make whatever ammo is needed.
That’s why I have twenty pounds of Unique put up. I’ve used that powder successfully in 38 Super, 9mm, 10mm, .38 special, .357 .41 .44 Mag, .40 cal, .45 acp, 35 Remington and .45-70 Govt.
That powder should have been named Universal.
It’s not about reloading for me, either. For me, it’s about having the maximum amount of ammo for the money.
Not stocking up on components, or ammo for non-reloaders, is absurd behavior for anyone who truly enjoys shooting. Shortages of both are never a matter of if but always a matter of when.
For the last few years the owner of Sigforum has been browbeating his members to stock up on ammo. He really did them a huge favor, because a bunch of them opened their eyes and took his advice.
I have 10,000 .22lr, 2,000 9MM, 1000 .40 S&W and 1000 .45acp
I am set for awhile
Sounds like a good day at the range lol!!
Unique is good stuff. With a few cast bullet molds and some alloy, it can make just about anything run. It used to be sold as a rifle powder, as labeled on a couple of old tins I used.
LGS has plenty of handguns, but won't sell ANY ammo unless you also purchase a handgun...go figure...on the other hand, there are "some" bright spots...I sent 65$ worth of range brass to an outfit that lets you bank your brass for their reloaded ammo...they called yesterday and I have 500 124 gr 9mm coming next week for about 9 bucks a box all-told...not to rub it in...just sayin there are "some" bright spots, but damn few...
Time to take up 300 yd bullseye......with a .45 acp handgun.
Ammo is still available everywhere in the popular calibers, if you don't mind getting robbed. I checked on 9mm at a local gun store and they wanted 45.99 for a box of 50 fmj.
I went to the flea market today.
Bass pro was good to me today.
5.56 box 150 for $69, 9 mm 14.99.
Love that no one has called me out for calling A2 supporters the **** heads right now for buying everything by the second on ammoseek only to resell. Total **** heads.
As a reloader it's been interesting to see the ebbs and flows of the component pricing over a span of about 15-20 years and see how much the prices fluctuate. I truly think that after Trump hopefully wins a second term you will see reloading components start the downward trend along with used pistols.
I remember walking into a Walmart about a year ago with my wife to simply do some shopping for groceries and as always I drift past the sporting goods section. I was looking for a specific .22lr ammo from Winchester that I use for hunting....Winchester Xpert in the familiar silver colored box. I asked a clerk about it after looking behind the counter for it on the shelves and he redirected me to a aisle display that showed the same ammo in a new colored white box. My error. There must have been hundreds of 500 round boxes priced at $14.95 a box I think. I walked out with 12 boxes of it.
As late as This spring I ran across primers at Sportsman Warehouse by Winchester and CCI for around $22-$26 a thousand and I did pick up some more although my inventory was ok for me and my needs. Powders have been spotty with bullets seeming to be more of the limiting component than the others.
I guess that come the spring of next year prices will moderate and wise folks will stock up when the sales do occur.
I just bought a case of Speer Gold Dot Hollow Points for $367.00
in 45 GAP. Still though, thems damn near range ammo prices.
I paid about $300 for 15,000 S&B primers a few years ago. Yeah they are hard’ but I still have 10,000 of them.
I feel for you guys, but I’m glad I’m not getting taking it in the short pants and praying Biden doesn’t win.
Your cost $18.35 per 50 round box is below current dealer cost.
thats a weekend shooting for some people.
What's your point?
