New factory ammo is available from Speer, Federal, Winchester, Remington, Cor-Bon and Double Tap. Options include 185-gr, 200-gr and 230-gr, with 200-gr being the most popular by far. The 5 State Police agencies that have adopted the GAP's use 200-gr Speer Hold Dots for carry and Speer Lawman 200-gr FMJ for training. Consider the last sentence a hint.

Any of the name brands should work fine. I've not heard about any ammo sensitivity with any of the GAPs. I'm almost afraid to ask but with the gun so expensive out there what kind of prices are you finding on ammo for it?

I've run the following thru my newish 38 with results as noted:
    ...AmEagle 185FMJs, inconsistent feeding
    No problems with:
    ...Win. Super-X 185 Silvertips
    ...Win. USA (whitebox) 230FMJs
    ...MagTech 230FMJs

I use Speer 185 Gold Dots bullets in my own reloads for PD, with Universal powder, Federal primers, and above-brand once-fired cases. The bullets perform beautifully...

...and I've managed to exceed the velocity of the factory Silvertips by over 100FPS within quite-safe pressures.

Check ammoengine... http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/.45_GAP ...for ammo. I suggest the Speer Lawman 200s for practice, etc.

I carry Speer 185gr Gold Dots and have both American Eagle 185gr FMJ and Georgia Arms 185gr FMJs for training ammo.

With the muzzle velocity of 1090 fps out of a 4" barrel for 488 foot pounds of energy, I feel I made a good choice for defense ammo.
