Just bought season one of "Wanted Dead or Alive' at walmart for $5 . Starring Steve Mcqueen . I vaguely remember watching it as a little kid and thought it was pretty cool as I remember. It is the full first season of 18 episodes. I havn`t been able to watch it yet but will do when I can find the time. Part of the coolness of this series was the "mares leg" he carried. I don`t remember why he carried this . It may be explained when I get a chance to actually watch it again after all these years. What would be the purpose of this thing? You can`t shoot it like a rifle or a pistol either , using the sites.

I remember it well. What a cool actor Steve McQueen was. As far as the "Mares Leg", I guess it was different than all the other westerns on at that time and CBS was looking for an edge. They got the edge for 4 years.

    $5?! I gotta get me to Wal-Mart.

McQueen was one of the last cool actors.

That`s what I was wondering . If it was for the cool factor carrying that "mares leg" or if there is a good reasoning behind it. I know as a little kid it had a cool appeal to me.They also had in the $5 rack a couple boxed sets of old western movies. Don`t remember
the movie titles much, but I don`t think any of them epic westerns. Still at $5 if your westerns fan you can`t go too wrong there .

They've just released a replica of that gun in .44 and .45. It.s a legal pistol.

Here's a piece of trivia. Steve McQueen had .45-70 ammo in his belt loops, although the Mare's Leg was a {IIRC} ..44-40. The huge rifle rounds looked more intimidating.

The rationale behind the use of the gun {for the show} was that it looked different and cool. There are companies that make new ones now.

As for use, it would be hard, as you said, to aim.
