Perhaps the first thing to do would be to define corruption.
To some the word means illegal acts such as dishonesty, bribery - some sort of specific crime. To others it may mean doing something they do not agree with.

I don't want to see. If I did, I would be more upset than I usually am.

I work for the largest public utility in the country.
I could write a book on it.

Well, found the doc in my area who was caught trading narcotic prescriptions for blowjobs. He is working at the state pen now.

A moment of perspective is in order. I found a former co-worker, a Lieutenant, in the Baltimore PD on the list at a $200K+ "salary". A lieutenant makes nowhere near that figure. This guy was/is known to work every overtime detail known to God. He has no home life, he just works every bit of OT he can grab. It would be more accurate to list base salaries rather than gross income.

    Why?
Gross income is what is paid out.

The best public salaries sometimes come with a jail sentence :)

I didn't think that was true. The person I saw who claimed a salary for being a jailer said he made $13/hr. That doesn't seem to be the best salary.

High salaries due to overtime can be misleading. The overtime is there, and necessary to fill vacancies. A lot of guys hate working OT, so you’ll often see a small group of officers taking most of the available OT shifts.

When my agency was at extremely low staffing, we had mandatory OT. Depending on how our hiring was going, the mandatory extra shifts varied from one a month to one every week and a half. In the year that we were on mandatory OT, I didn’t work a single extra day because there were enough OT whores who were happy to take it.

Because it may lead the inattentive to think that ALL Lts. in the BPD make that kind of money. Ideally, they would list base salary AND gross income. That is exactly what the local rag does when they go through this exercise annually.

You could also publish salaries of those who manipulated schedules to work say 10 on 4 off.

Then the employee gets 2 days (16 hrs) of overtime for working 80 hours in two weeks because of FLSA defines a week.

Publishing the actual cost is much more realistic as it captures manipulated schedules and such.

    Base salary means almost nothing.

But how about this. We tax corporate executives only on base salary and not on any of the "extras"? If only base salary really matters, then it seems that type of taxation is fair to do to the private sector, no?
