What revolver to get with some type of red dot (including reflex types)?

This purchase is a year away, so I 'm planning ahead.

Maybe an M&P R8 or 327 TRR8 ? Both of those are N frame 8 shot .357. This will be a range gun, but just not sure if I want to go up in size from an L to an N. But I'd love to have a top rail already there (so I don't have to add it).

Maybe a 686 L frame, and I take the iron sights off, and install some rail mount, then add a red dot? What mount would you suggest? I don't want to involve any gunsmith, so it would need to be "do it yourself simple". Anyone do that, and how well does it work for you? Sturdy enough that way?

Similar idea with a K frame. Maybe the new model 66? Any differences between the mount for a K and L, and how well they work?

Any other suggestions? Most likely .38/.357, although I've thought about 9mm. I prefer DA/SA for this. But I'd consider SA. Would need to be a generally very accurate gun, or no point in doing it :)

    In .38, I already have:
    GP-100 6"
    686 2.5"
    14 K-38 6"
    640 2.2"
    642 1.9"
    637 1.9" with a laser grip

So what revolver should I buy for a red dot project fun and accurate range gun?
    :)

I have a TRR8 with a Trijicon RMR on it. It's a fantastic piece of machinery.

S&W 657 Classis Hunter with Bushnell Holosight. Rail mount attached to the sight channel and screw hole. Solid set up and rang a lot of steel targets. Piggies. Hens. Rams and turkeys (not in that order). Better choice for reddots today but the mounts are nearly the same. Good luck.

Look into the Raptor Engineering mounts. Direct mount for almost any of the MRDS currently out there.

I just got a Bushnell TRS-25 and put it on a S&W 500 Mag for fun at the range. Gun has an integral rail so mounting was a snap. Works well and not expensive so might be worth a try to see if you really like reds on a revolver, no bank breaker if you find it isn't what you really like. Don

I have both a 686 and a 986 set up with red dot sights and both are tack drivers set up this way.

    What mount did you use?

Do it yourself? Any specific cleaning and thread lock suggestions? Ever come loose or move?

Red dot position ever seem high to you, compared to where irons are?

What model sight is mounted on that?

Lots of questions. Your pic looks awesome :)

For Ithaca. My intent with the Bushnell was simply to have fun and get a clearer sight picture than I can at age 71 with irons.

The 500 Mag has a very well deserved reputation for destroying optics. I don't intend to even try to shoot more than mid range loads with it. Bushnell said it had been tested successfuly with the .375 H&H and 3 1/2 Mag 12 ga shells so it would appear to be fairly rugged. Got it at Midway for about half of MSRP. Don

Put the red dot on the 637. You already have a laser on it, the red dot will make it totally badass and the talk of the range.

I have CMores on a 627 and 617 on Alchin mounts. I use red locktite for everything, it's great on pancakes.

Actually a Burris Fast Fire or Holosun would balance out the revolver better.

I don't remember who made the base, I believe it came from Brownell.
I always use red locktight on the base to the firearm and blue locktight on the mount to the firearm,
I do all my own work. I sight my red dots at 21 feet and that keeps me in the 10 ring at 10 feet 21 feet and 50 feet, which is where we shoot in the combat league I'm in. The picture is with a Burris Fastfire III, I have changed it to an Ultradot Matchdot II since, with this I can select a smaller and brighter dot.

For economy if power factor is not an issue, you may want to consider the 929 in 9mm. Store bought ammo 9mm is far cheaper than most of the other calibers.

The 625 didn't do too bad in this month's challenge; if you want a manly caliber.

I didn't notice until now that you had a red dot on that. I had to add 3 to you score, but it didn't change the placings :)
