    Follow the directions at http://techquipped.com/content/view/16/2/

That's what I'm running right now although I haven't removed XP. Caution: in it's current state, things are a little on the technical side. I had to down a GPartEd LiveCD and resize my primary partition to make a 7.5 GB partition to install Vista too, but after that I've installed everything on top of where it was for XP.

Opinion so far: It's different though not greatly so.

I've seen lots of negative reviews of Vista on the computer geek boards -- many of the beta testers claim it has enough negative changes to frustrate, puzzle, and annoy casual home users, while at the same time not adding enough positive changes to satisfy demanding advanced users.

Windows XP does everything I need a home computer to do and more -- the only advances I would be looking for are in web security, vuirus resistance, and fewer OS crashes/hangups while running sophisticated applications.

(Moderators will probably quickly move this thread out of the firearms section.)

I see no reason to go to Vista at all. At least not now. I have tried the Beta IE7 and Had to remove it, as it simply would not let Video's load or play, in the browser. Other than that, I liked it.

The OS itself is pretty slick, but driver support sucks at the moment. If you have older hardware you might be ok, but if you are the type of person to always have the latest and greatest hardware, you will probably be disappointed, at least until the hardware vendors get their drivers up to speed.

The first pic was just for show. I run a dual-monitor setup. The laptop screen is 1280x800 and the 19" monitor is 1024x768. My laptop has a sticker that says Designed for XP/Vista Compatible. So far it looks like everything is working like it should. I have some bus controller or something that still needs a driver and I had to manuall install the on-board sound but other than that, it works as good as XP but maybe a little faster in some respects.

Ditto - And the new visual style does nothing for me. I've had StyleXP since 02 and have yet to have a problem or need to upgrade...

Nothing and we're already aware of it.

It does have a great deal to do with clicking the wrong forum link, however. ;)

    Nope, no interest.

I use Linux (Ubuntu). Runs my Office XP, IE, and VPN just fine.

I will eventually, of course, will be forced to "work" with it at work though.

I loaded it up on a spare Optiplex that I had laying around at work. The PC has a "Windows Vista Capable" sticker on it, and is a 3Ghz P4 with 1GB of RAM. Vista runs like crap. The whole OS is one giant dog turd. Everything is 10x slower than XP on the same system.

I won't be upgrading any of my machines until mandated.

The OS is not a turd in regards to performance, it is your PC that is lacking.

3Ghz P4 is not that fast today, 1GB is minimal for Vista, and I am betting that the real culprit is a slow video card and HD.

    Not particularly.

I suspect by the time I need a new computer, it'll come pre-loaded.....and by that time it might actually work.

Hmm...I wonder if it would work with my laptop. I have 2gigs of ram, 3.6Ghz processor and a Nvidia 6800 ultra graphics card. What do ya think? Oh and thanks for the screen shots!
