Jesus Christ! Another reason I don't want to work Loss Prevention anymore. Did it for 3 years for Lechmere and lucky to get out alive. May God rest their souls.

Yeah I did some security work here in Albuquerque. Mainly just a presence for beer runs. I did not enjoy guarding the beer unarmed much.

I was that same guy at wali wurld (ww), and even brought up the safety issues about AP-09 (ww shoplifting policy) with mgt, HR, and corporate (filed ethics complaint). Sadly, nothing was done at the time. Maybe this sad loss of life will change the game at ww.

Nothing will change. Change only occurs when the corp is paying out money.

Well here the corporation will be paying out money. Since the security guard was killed while performing his employment duties, the employer (Wal Mart) will be liable for workers' compensation death benefits payable to his wife and children. Depending on his age, his salary, and his wife's age, the present value of these benefits could be worth between a quarter and a half million dollars. Depending on his employment status, the widow could be eligible for life insurance benefits as well.

We would need more facts to see if things would have turned out differently if the security guard was armed.

Too bad we can't genetically encode something that makes criminals kill themselves after committing a violent crime. Sure would save a lot of money for the taxpayers.

If we can't encode that genetically, maybe as a society we could just start doing it again ourselves.
