So I've got the funds, I've budgeted carefully, and after 9 months of spending on needs, I'm ready to spend on wants. And I want a S&W M&P Sport II, which will be my first ever AR. It was either that or a Ruger AR-556, but the overwhelming majority said "get the S&W". So that's what I'm gonna do.

I've never bought a gun online though. I have an FFL near me that will do a $30 transfer, and that includes a background check. I figure that's a good deal. Florida Gun Supply has them in stock for $699....that's just an example, not necessarily where I will be buying from.

So walk me through the process. I pay for the gun on the website, and THEN email them a copy of the FFL that it's being sent to? Or do I have to contact the FFL in town and have him get a hold of the FFL that I'm buying it from? Or should I go to the FFL and fill out the 4473 first before I order? I haven't bought a gun since 2011, and I'm also in a different state now (Oregon).

What do I do? I'm going to make sure I've got everything straight before I grab my VISA.

On that note as well.....I have VISA through Wells Fargo. Are they going to deny this purchase because it came from a gun shop? I heard they were doing something like that a couple years ago.....

I looked around on the forum and didn't see a separate sub-forum for this topic, so I thought I would ask it here. Thanks everyone!

You need to contact the seller, see what he expects of you. The seller will want money and will need a copy of the FFL from your LGS. He may have it already, then it is a simple send dealer-dealer. You do your part at LGS like any other purchase; pay the man, do the forms. wait as needed, pick up gun.
If the seller needs FFL of LGS, supply seller info to LGS, he'll make needed paper appear at seller.
Pretty simple, much easier than ordering from Amazon /sarc.

YMMV,

As far as VISA goes, you should call their customer service number on the back of the card and talk to them. If VISA is being that stupid about what you buy with their card, it may be a good time for a new card.

I've heard that WF got their mammaries in a wringer a while ago over false accounts, etc. As a result they shied away from partaking in the anti-gun virtue signaling.
I'd let them decline the charge if they're so inclined then go at them with gnashing teeth as needed.

Check out sportsmans guide or buds gun shop , you pay the site, you can do a search for a FFL . It’s easy . I joined sportsmansguide s club and make payments . Its click and pay, even a click for the ffl.

I was looking at Buds gun shop a couple days ago because I was looking at a job opportunity in Tennessee. Not very good reviews.

Whichever retailer you use, check to see if they have an FAQ section that will explain their process for firearm sales. The process is pretty similar everywhere, but not everyone is exactly the same.

I've been buying guns online for years. I don't have one go-to retailer for my purchases, I shop around and go with whoever has the best price. So I've dealt with many different websites. I've never had a problem.

Think of it as 3 steos once you have found your “gun”

1 notify the local FFL of your intentions. Get their “OK” to handle the transfer

2 buy your gun on-line, providing the necessary local FFL information to the seller.

3 Local FFL calls you when the gun arrives and you do the normal paperwork and pick up your firearm.....

if you don’t want to do that go to your local FFL tell them you found a gun you want and ask if they will order it for you. Most will, but they may want a couple of bucks more.......

Unless it is in their user agreement, a credit card company can not deny you the legal purchase of any goods or services.

Some online dealers have a list of FFL’s listed that they have done business with.

The buying process is as others describe.

Make sure they have said item in stock. Some of these online dealers take orders and then fill the order from a distributor, who may have run out before your order was filled.

Every gun I bought since the pandemic started has been online.
Hard to find what I was looking for locally and they where gouging if they had it!
Anyways as has been stated it’s pretty simple.
I have a FFL dealer do the transfer and BG check for $25.
I simply forward the confirmation email from the seller to my guy and ask him to send a copy of his FFL to seller.
then go pick it up after paperwork and BG check once it arrives.
I don’t have to do any kind of waiting period as a CWP holder here in FL.
Most of the transaction can be done home in your underwear until it arrives at your local FFL!
