IHOP corporate does not have a policy on guns but it looks like locally owned franchises may have a gun free policy.

Who knew, Waffle House politically correct? Especially in Kentucky. I would have figured that you had to be Ron White to have been asked to leave Waffle House.

Their food blows, and so does their PC gun policy.

I never changed out of my bdus before leaving work. I might have gone grocery shopping, gotten gas or even grabbed a bite in uniform. Thing may have changed, but there's no rule against being in uniform off base. Some more hostile areas had a certain radius from the base you can't be in uniform out of but that's it.

I was wondering the same thing but if he was tending to his own business and on official business does it matter. Do they tell uniformed police officers they will not be served, who are they to question a uniformed person asking to be served.

It wasn't the uniform, it was the weapon

Was it open? Did the soldier think that the uniform disguised the weapon, or nullified the rule? I think concealed may have prevented this.

A place that serves a 1500 calorie sausage, bacon and egg breakfast is looking out for your safety by forbidding soldiers with guns. You just can't make this stuff up.

If people are afraid of the US Military with guns, who do they look up to.............

I know the fear some people have of guns, but life/age has a far better record of killing you.

Who, besides military police, wears a sidearm on duty on US posts? If this was an off-duty MP, it seems he would have been within the Waffle House policy allowing 'police' to be served.

I watched this kid grow up and he used to work for me. FWIW he has a KY CCDW. I don't know why he wasn't carrying concealed that day. He and his friend (who also used to work for me) were on their way back from weekend drills when they stopped in to get something to eat.

Thanks. The list of uniformed Soldiers carrying while on duty is pretty slim. I just wondered, and your explanation makes sense.

Apparently he was in a fist fight at this Waffle House a few weeks ago. Escorted out by the po-po. Now he is back packing a 'gat'.

Yes, I could see WH asking him to leave his weapon outside.

Snip from a press release by Ray Daniels, owner of the Waffle House franchise in question.

“However, on this particular incident, two facts have not been reported accurately that facilitated the situation with Mr. Welch. First, he was an active participant in a fight on the premises several weeks prior to September 27th. He was restrained and taken off the premises by off-duty police officers that were eating in the restaurant at the time.”

It none of their business if he is carrying a weapon if he is on official business. When I was in the army I was escorting another solider with multiple AWOL problems and I was issued a sidearm. He may of been returning to base after a similar assignment. People are making a big deal out of nothing and I'm sure the Army will deal with him if he was in the wrong.
