I wonder if this belongs in another area? It does relate to my new G20 in a big way.

So, I'm peering through the ammo case at Wally World when my usual sales guy comes up. He asks what I need today. I reply that I was really hoping they might have some 10mm. He just states flatly that, "Nope, we don't carry exotic ammunition."
I mean, I didn't make a scene or anything but I did ask what defines "exotic" by Wally's handbook. His reply was one for the books..."Well, right now is the first time I've ever even heard of it." I guess he told me, eh? He went on to say that there is obviously no demand for it so they wouldn't be stocking it. I have to wonder how many people just look, don't see, then leave?
I understand it's not as ubiquitous as 9mm or even 45 ACP, but there is NO demand? Really? Bottom line, it's their store and they can run it anyway they see fit. This is still, for the time being, America.

So, all you 10mm owners, how does it feel to be shooting "exotic" ammo?
And please, somebody, tell me that your local W-M sells 10mm. Even if it's in Alaska, I'd still love to know that at least one store stocks it.

my local walmart stocks it , no one up here shoots 10mm

it was funny, during the ammo rush the only ammo left on the shelf was 10mm and .25

Shooting the exotic 10mm caliber makes me feel ... exotic!

Be gracious with that clerk. He didn't call the caliber obsolete, overpowered, hypermacho, or any of the other crap the 10mm shooters have heard. Exotic is a reasonably gracious term for what could be fairly described as a "niche" caliber.

WOW!!! That's amazing if what I'm thinking is right? Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Illinois one of the most gun UN-friendly states in the country?
That's remarkable, and thanks for the info.

Wait a minuet you got on to me about posting about a glock sight pusher in the General Glocking forums and now you started a ammo thread here? :dunno::tongueout:
Just messing with you. The walmart near me doesn't stock 10mm ammo either. I just bought a G32 .357 Sig and the walmart near me said they will only stock 1 box a month of .357 Sig. I told them I would buy a bunch more and they said no it was consider exotic ammunition and they were only approved to order 1 box at a time. They said I can buy it and they will order a new replacement box that would take up to a month to get back in..

Perhaps this will demonstrate an old organizational axiom:

We must have rules! If we don't have rules, then we can't have any fun breaking the rules!

The walmart buy me has 357sig, a couple of boxes. But no 10mm. The local academy just started carrying 10mm, but its blazer so I wont buy it because I can't reload it. My local range only stocks 2-4 boxes of 10mm range ammo and a box or two of SD, other range only has SD in 10mm.

Only places in Illinois is Gun Unfriendly , Chicago and Cook County. the rest of the state is good to go as far as weapons are concerned

the foid card is just a card from the Illinois State Police that we show for ammo purchases the amount isn't recorded it is just used for ammo, and the ranges usually let people shoot there that don't have foid cards as long as we don't buy any ammo of course

of course we have no CC, no open carry , no SBR , no suppressors, no full autos but at lest they don't specifically ban firearms or features

it makes for some weird ammo left on the shelf .380 is plentiful because we can't CC guns so that really isn't bought unless you have a .380 and used handguns have no wear unless they were police trade ins

It doesn't surprise me the OP's wally world doesn't stock 10mm, mine doesn't even stock 357 Sig. I thought that 357 Sig was at least kinda common, at least more common then 10mm, but no sign of it at my wally world. But you bet they have TONS of 9mm, .40, and 45ACP.

That is interesting. I thought the whole state was very "anti gun". That's a trip about the used guns having minimal external wear, makes a lot of sense considering you can't carry them.

Man, if you came down here in NC and looked in my LGS's used gun case you would laugh at how used some of the guns really are. Some are barely used, but some look like someone carried that damn thing all day everyday for 30+ years. Especially the used Glocks, but hey, that's what they are for right!

The 10mm isn't all that popular. He has a point.

I wouldn't call it exotic...maybe niche or non-mainstream or fringe.

Since Chicago sets the laws for the state the entire state is indeed gun unfriendly.

BTW: I went to a range in Illinois. It was most certainly not in Chicago or Cook county or even very close. You could not use humanoid targets and if you used a silhouette, which was allowed, absolutely no headshots were allowed. THey were very, very serious about this. The targets they sold had no head, even the silhouttes. I was not allowed to lay a finger on any of the firearms in the shop because I did not possess a FOID, despite the fact that I was from out of state and had a carry license from my state. They didn't care. I couldn't do anything but talk to them about how bad their state sucked ass.

Don't buy into to what Wal-mart workers say. The one at my local wal-mart told me that hollowpoints are illegal in North Carolina, and thats why they don't sell them. A few seconds later I pointed out a box of Winchester PDX-1, and said "well what is that?"

I am in NKY and have never seen 10mm. Called my buddy that runs a local gun shop and they only keep 4 to 5 boxes in stock
