Is it possible to have joined the Army in April 1977 and have served in Vietnam and see combat?

I thought we left in April 1975 after the fall of Saigon.

Yes and No. The USA officially left in April of 1975. The USA still ran ops in SE Asia for years after the the war. Still does today when necessary. These would be operations of a sensitive nature and not general knowledge. IMHO

In David Hackworths book. ABOUT FACE he exposed joke of poorly trained people going to Vietnam from Fort Lewis, Washington unprepared for jungle warfare.

Decease neighbor was at Fort Lewis trading troops, he told commander he was done. Seeing casualty report got to his head.

He got DISHORNORABLE DISCHARGE.

Havkworth’s book conferm his story.

I met Col Hackworth at Ft McPherson, Ga. in 1971.
Saw Calley and Medina there as well.

Hackworth should have got MOH, highly decorated for valor.

Guy was in Merchant Marines WE2 at 14 years young. Lied his way into Army at 15 post WE2.
