Ballistic test of the 180 gr Gold Dot, using 1 gallon jugs filled with wet newspaper and 4 layers of denim over the first jug. The video includes a very brief segment showing recoil in a Glock 22, which was the test gun as well. You will also get an up-close view of what happened to the hollowpoint cavity during the test.

Love the new recoil demonstration. Is there a difference between the 50 round box of LE vs the 20 round box of personal protection?

    Hmm.
    Good video.
I think I will stick with HST 180gr as long as I can still get it . . .

Yeah, the 180 HST is still my first choice in .40, but it is of course a PITA to locate.

    Another good one!

TWS G26, After seeing first hand the 9mm vs the 40 cal and the shootability and all, what do you like best? Have you converted to the 40 cal way? I thought youd have added the g27 or g23 to your arsenal by now!

I've tried the G26, didn't work for me....so I feel the same about the G27. The G23 would be great, since I have the holsters, etc. If I acquire anything, it will be a G22....the one I use in these tests is a loaner.

Shootability.....having a hard time with this. As much as I have invested in the 9mm, I am finding the .40 to be quite controllable, and I really like the heavier bullet concept....say a 180 vs. 147. Hoping to give the G22 a serious workout this weekend, which could strengthen (or alter) my mindset on the 40.

Nice performing round. Thanks TWS G26. I think I'll buy some more while it's cheap.

I actually like the 26.. the 27 has a little to much bark for my feminine hands.. :). I carry it if I have to, since she likes the 26, but I'd rather pick up my sp101 in those situations.

Nice test. Expansion to .60 represents a 50% increase over base caliber. Not too shabby. Thanks for posting.

Do you ever worry about the 40S&W 180GR over penetrating?

PS. Really enjoy your vids. Kudos to you and Hickok45, the only youtube I check regularly.

50 round boxes are intended for LE/gov't sales, 20 round boxes are intended for civilian sales.

The 50 round boxes are a much better value, so grab those whenever possible.

.60 expansion on a .40S&W isn't that great. In other tests he did the Winchester PDX .40 expanded to .766 and achieved about the same penetration (16.5") . His testing of 165gr .40 Gold Dots showed little expansion also. Overall I'm less impressed with the Gold Dots in .40S&W compared to 9mm. 124+P expanded to over .70.

The more tests I see like this the more I respect the 9mm. .40S&W just doesn't seem like it has a whole lot more to offer (but I still like the .40 for some reason)

Interestingly enough, there was a video that went a round, a year or so ago, in which a forum member had to shoot a guy robbing the motel desk he was working at. He shot the guy 3 times with a 180 gr. .40 and all three shots went right through the guy. He switched to a 155 gr. bullet.

The 9mm wasn't tested with denim as an intermediate barrier so it's an apples to oranges comparison. Had the 9mm gold dot gone through denim as well, it wouldn't have expanded anywhere near this much.....Bottom line is that Gold Dots don't like heavy clothing.
