If I ever have the $10,000 + left to go to Russia and fly the 30 minutes with one of those jets, I will do it!
Would be interesting to fly this Scorpion figure.

    That is impressive.

Nothing like having vectored thrust and canards to help with some of those "stunts".

Holy ****. That video just single-handedly rendered the single-ship US military demonstration teams officially LAME!

It won't matter when we release our 20+G-pulling UCAVS. Any pilot attempting to out-turn them would G-lock.

If you want to see something cool, check out the new Apaches the Army is developing...there will be a control module for UCAVS/UAVs in the cockpit, making it "mother goose.:)

But how do the UCAVs "see" the fighters before and after the merge? The only time you need to pull 20 Gs is in ACM, and the only time to fly ACM is when you have either a) a need to VID the bogey, or b) screwed up on your intercept and BVR shots and gotten yourself behind. Either way, I can't see a guy with a camera in the nose of the UCAV fighting a very good dogfight, no matter how many Gs he can pull. Someday, sensor technology will catch up, but until the UCAV driver can see the other jet's flaps come down when he gets slow, or see the other guy try to pull his nose on and hit the limiter, and then alter his fight accordingly, I think there needs to be a stick monkey in the seat.

BTW, it's G-LOC, for "G-induced Loss Of Consciousness."

I sure hope so! I guess I'm just a cynic about all of this, though.

    Thanks for the clarification,

the 35 and raptor are roughly equals. The 35 can pull turns the raptor cant because of its canards. Like the Pachachev's cobra. The Raptor is more advanced, faster, and more stealthy. In a close range turning gun fight, with equal pilots, the raptor would probably get eaten up because it cant turn with the 35. At stand off missle range it would eat the 35 up

Impressive, very impressive. Anybody needing justification of F/A-22 Raptor necessity and procurement need only watch that video. A few words to the replys. Indeed the tighter turning and better manuverability of the Sukhoi would give it a leg up on the raptor in a close in guns only fight. This has pretty much always been the case with Soviet vs American planes of approximately equal levels. However, When one figures in avionics, radar, stealth, and missle technology not to mention far superior training (Hooah AF) the raptor simply is the better overall plane.

That SU-35 has been around for about 10 years before we EVEN THOUGHT about thrust vectoring in jets. THe Russians are tops here, for now.

It will look great when we shoot it down. With stealth and advanced elctronics that manevering is a thing of the past and the F-22 and F-18 would easily kill it.

Interesting to watch the displacements of those front canards.

I hope you realize the F-18 is getting old too, the SU-35 is much newer than it, and would probably eat its lunch one on one

    AK -

I think you're right, but when was the last one-on-one engagement between fighters? I think the point Don was trying to make is that our (USA) avionics are such that, although nice, manueverability isn't terribly necessary. Even C-130's are getting retrofitted with new avionics, so I imagine the 18s are getting their fair share of upgrades.

I think the navy is getting new F/A-18's. I work on the F/A-18 and F-14 avionics and there technology is allot better than any Russian technology. They constantly get upgrades even if it is something minor that you do not hear about. I am not an expert but I don't belive it can take out an F/A-18
