Try to see both sides of it. I kinda think the guy was trying to push the issue. However, apparently within his rights.

I think the first officer, is more like: "Do I know this guy?" "Is this about me, personally?" I can certainly understand that.

I could not get the video to play however reading some of the comments it appeared the cops were on a traffic stop and this guy came strolling up to them during the course of the stop?

    Is that what happened?

He's a douchbag. He purposely looks for something to get himself into, approaches a traffic stop/contact, thereby presumably causing the officer to go to red and on and on. He purposely gets mixed into something, creating the confrontation. The Ron Paul sticker above his head could be a clue . . .

He wants to create the situation. Approach me on a traffic stop openly carrying and we will have a come to Jesus moment.

Again, as I have written before, this kind of OC douchbaggery is a fantastic way to endanger the movement, especially with LE.

If the officer was going to take any type of action for his own safety he should have done so immediately, when the guy walked up on his motor vehicle stop. I would have drawn down on the guy and made him swallow a little pavement.

By following the guy and then requsting his ID, the moment of danger had already passed, and the officer no longer had concern for his safety.

I agree with the above though. The guy was a D bag and was just out looking for trouble.

Anyone that walks up on one of my traffic stops carrying a gun, that isn't a fellow cop, is likely going to get a gun screwed in his ear. That is obscene stupidity at it's aboslute worst. Anyone that thinks that would possibly be cool is a freaking retard....

That was a tool of a move.
Why would you start an issue with an officer.
What could you possibly gain ? Some hits on youtube ?

The dude is clearly yearning for his big chance to have his rights violated, and to get it on video, but it looks like this stopped being an officer safety issue (to this officer, at least) when the officer turned his back on him and went about his citation business.

How can you say it's about officer safety when the D-bag was walking away while the officer was (at this point) in his car, rolling down the street? I think the officer spoke to a supervisor and was advised to stop the guy. The situation was over and done with prior to that.

I gotta admit, though... I was secretly hoping D-bag would get tasered.

The Officer should have handled this from the get go ..

If he would have stopped him at the beginning I'm sure there would be no discussion about the subject what so ever ..

Strike the iron while its hot?

    Another thought...

D-bag here is a pro at this. He made sure he was on foot, as far as the officers could tell. He parked far away and walked to the scene. Otherwise, the officer might have seen him driving a car and would have been able to request a drivers license. Isn't that right?

In the context of a consensual encounter, i.e. just walking up so someone, then no.

During and investigative detention, then yes.
