Yeah not a really good comparison IMO, especially in FMJ. You want bullets of sim SD, so 230gr in 45 & 200gr in 10mm. Same for the JHP for better comparison, but I love shooting stuff. Plus cost of ammo, should probably branch out from the local store &/or include handloads.

He loves to shoot melons. Not sure how much real scientific value that has.

Good video, but (there is always a but) I think that a lot of guys who carry a 10mm usually try to carry loads that rock. Loads like Underwood and BB. We/they aren't satisfied with Remington MC or even Sig ammo. There is nothing wrong with the 45 either (I own both).

When I carried mine for security work, I stuffed it with Team Never Quit ammunition. I wanted the splat effect at close range as not to risk bystanders.

    Just my .02

    My 10mm vs 45 comparison...
    Handy calculator: http://www.shooterscalculator.com/recoil-calculator.php
Glock 20SF/21SF (same platform) to compare recoil impulse.
Using link above, assigned 1.7# firearm weight, my actual chronographed velocities.
45 powder charge assigned based on max charge #5 from AA load manual, reasonable guess.
10mm charge actual in my handloads, assigned 180 charge to CD 175, close enough.
    Glock 20SF:
    Hornady 175 gr. Critical Duty @ 1,158 fps / 521# KE - recoil impulse 1.10 - recoil energy 11.53
    Handload 180 gr. Gold Dot @ 1,146 fps / 525# KE - recoil impulse 1.12 - recoil energy 11.87
    Handload 155 gr. XTP @ 1,366 / 642# KE - recoil impulse 1.20 - recoil energy 13.62 (a bit snappy)
    Glock 21SF:
    Federal HST 230 gr. @ 863 fps / 380# KE - recoil impulse 1.07 - recoil energy 10.92
    Remington Golden Saber 185 +P @ 1,069 fps / 470# KE - recoil impulse 1.11 - recoil energy 11.68
    Winchester Ranger T 230 gr. @ 931 fps / 443# - recoil impulse 1.14 - recoil energy 12.38

I've selected 10mm ammo with comparable recoil impulse to 45 acp, 2nd shot time is a factor.
20SF with my 180 Gold Dot (preferred load) offers two more rounds capacity and more KE than the 45's (even +P) with a similar level of felt recoil, so I carry the 20SF.

Note: My Gold Dot handload produces power (KE) on par with an original "full power" self defense load, 10mm Silvertip, averaged 1,170 fps / 533# from a Glock 20SF here:
