Hi guys,

I installed a Vickers slide stop a little while ago. Dropped in without any issues. Today I went to the range and had a problem seating a fresh mag on a slide lock back and then dropping said mag from the slide locked back. No issues dropping or seating mags with the slide forward, or dropping empty mags.

I noticed that the slide seems to sit just a hair more forward now. As a result, there's a lip between the slide and frame that the mag is catching on. I can still seat a mag, but I'm noticing wear on the back of the casing when I do so. Also, there is some wear on the slide itself.

I'm going to change back to the Glock OEM part and see if that does it. Overall I'm pretty disappointed in the Vickers part. The contour/shape is perfect, but it ****ed up my gun.

And before you flame me, yes I know the box says "Gunsmith installation required." I'm curious as to why a gunsmith would be required on such a drop in part. Anyone care to explain what a smith would do different?

Certain parts can be intentionally oversized in certain areas so that a gunsmith can file them down to fit a particular gun, but in a Glock that shouldn't be necessary. The only aftermarket part that usually requires fitting is a barrel, some aftermarket barrels are oversized in certain areas to provide a tighter fit between the barrel, slide, and locking block. But that shouldn't be the case with a slide stop. From what you describe, the slide stop isn't locking the slide back far enough which would mean the slide stop is undersized. This is the first time I've heard of this issue with a Vicker's slide stop.

The only thing a gunsmith would do is install it ensuring the slide stop spring is under the locking block pin to give the spring its tension and reassemble the rest of the pistol correctly. Most people can do that themselves.

Which model did you install the slide stop into? And is that model 2-pin or 3-pin? Looking at their website I'm surprised that they say you can use it in both 9mm/.40 and 10mm/45acp frames, and even though they don't say it on their website it probably wouldn't work in a 2-pin G17,17L, or 34. I wouldn't think it would work in a G21 even though they say it would.

It's in a G17 (soon to be pulled though). Gun in a Gen3 3 pin

While uncommon, you could have received a defective part. I have them in all my Glocks now, and I have installed a ton of them without a single issue. Double check everything then contact the outfit you purchased it from. They should gladly exchange it for you. TXPO.

Did you install it correctly? The spring fits UNDER the top pin.
Yup. Gonna check the install tomorrow. Still haven't had time to tinker. If the OEM works fine, I'll just leave it in there.

While field stripped, I can push the slide stop forward by about 1/16''. This is just about how much more forward the slide sits.

I'm also going to evaluate the slide for damage. I'm worried that the bottom got knicked up pretty bad as I was slamming mags home to the tune of 200 rounds. Since the lip on the slide is the bottom of the breech, I'm getting kinda worried. Once I have everything apart and cleaned, I'll take pictures of the damage.

Update: Tried re installing the Vickers part and had the same issues. Dropped in the stock part and no issues. No weird wear on the bottom of the slide, so I'm good to go. Going to see if I can get a new part and try that one.

I have to say, I really liked the contour of the Vickers, I just wish it worked right.

I had one on my G19. I too have removed it and gone back to the OEM Extended part. I had issues with take down and reassembly with the Vickers part. I tried it, didn't like it. That is another good part about a Glock, parts aren't really expensive and you can change them out pretty easy!!!

I exchanged emails with TangoDown, back in April, about a this exact issue. He told me: at slide lock, the slide is .005" further forward than a stock part (non extended) and it's within "acceptable" tolerances.

When I insert a mag at slide lock, I hear a click just shy of full insertion, it's the base of the top round impacting the ramp on the underside of the slide. The round is pushed down, then pops forward out of the way.

IMO: It's a design flaw.

That is interesting. As a mass produced item, it could very well be that the slide stop is not within specs as it should be. I switched over to them on all my Glocks and have never had any issues or causes for concern. The part itself is (VTSS-001) and it really has worked in 9mm and .45 without any problems. The only thing to note is that the paint/color/coating seems to wear of pretty quick at the point of contact with the slide notch. This is purely cosmetic and has not spread beyond the POC nor has it affected the function or fit of the pistols.

Waking this from the dead. I'm having an issue with my slide stop not springing back down with a new magazine. I cannot sling shot as normal and have to manually push the stop down. Back to the factory stop for me I guess.
The stop will jam up when pushed forward by the slide on lock back.
I cannot replicate except by shooting the gun to lock back.

I'm trading emails with TD now. I think this is a stack up, and the fact that ONE model from them is used for ALL models.
