I have some old VHS tapes that I would like to convert to CD or DVD. Does anyone know how to do this or where I may get it done?

For the price of getting one tape converted you can buy an external analog capture unit. I picked up an ADS Tech DVD Xpress and it works great.

I use Sony Vegas and DVD Architect to turn it into DVD, but any video editing / DVD authoring application would work.

Don't forget the additional HD space for digitizing/encoding;)

If your video card has an RCA or S-Video in you could use VirtualDub

I'm running an Alienware Area 51 Laptop. Unfortunately, I did not opt for the home entertainment upgrade. I'm kinda stuck having to get it converted by someone who does it for a living.

I just looked in Wal-Mart, they sell a DVD recorder for under $100.00. Looks like a VCR. All you do is plug a VCR into the back of it, put a disk in and push a few buttons and your running. You can plug a cam corder into it also and make DVD's.;b
