Anyone out there learn VBA the hard way and have a good reference book?

I've done plenty of programing with a 4GL and Access is just a royal pain! Things that are soooo simple to program and killing me in Access. Simple subtotals and totals.

I'm looking for a good "get started" type of book and then maybe an intermidate book. My primary focus is to run through tables and create reports with summary info, counting instances of a particular string in a field, get totals and run percentages. Like I said simple stuff in a 4GL, not easy in Access.

Any shove in the right direction would be apprecated! ;c

Andrew Pitonyak wrote a really nice book on OpenOffice macros which can be done in at least three languages, including Basic. He also wrote a document (over 300 pages) explaining most of it, that is available at the link at the top.

I know that OpenOffice and Microsoft Office are quite a bit different as far as the language goes, but this might be a good place to start.

(besides, no harm in learning OpenOffice is there?).
