Burglars broke into The Armory gun shop on Indian River Road Tuesday and stole more than two dozen handguns, police said today.
Alarms at the shop alerted police to the burglary shortly after midnight, said Officer Adam Bernstein, a police spokesman. When they arrived, they found that 27 handguns had been stolen before the burglars fled, he said.
They believe two burglars entered The Armory through the roof, Bernstein said. They don’t have suspect descriptions yet.
Police have entered the stolen firearms’ descriptions and serial numbers into their database, Bernstein said. Guns are some of the most frequently stolen items, including from homes, he said.
The case is under investigation, and police ask that anyone with information call Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
