Just opened a 100 box of 180 gr USB I had purchased along with a 100 box of 165 gr WWB FMJ at WalMart a couple weeks ago. The USB HAD cost about $1 more than the WWB.

Was getting it ready to take take to the range tomorrow night and discovered it was JHP ammo. Thought it was a mistake and looked at the end-flap (for the 1st time, duh) and sure enough, it was intended to be JHP!

Was conflicted over whether to use it at range because I considered it SD ammo.

It has a nice wide mouth Hollow Point!

So what IS this stuff? Is it decent SD ammo. Why spend more on GD or GS, when this stuff LOOKS pretty good?

I've never heard of "USB" brand ammo...

You know something, neither have I. Guess I'm suffering from "Oldtimers' Disease".

Sounds like USB Ammo would store a lot of data though. I could "shoot" a file to you faster than a speeding bullet.

    Yes, it's UMC.

Now back to my original question: Did you ever use or see reports on
    Remington UMC JHP ammo?

I'd say it's better than fmj for defense. However, there are many choices out there that are significantly better.

If the price is right there's nothing wrong in using REM-UMC JHP for range use.

Years ago LAPD used the standard pressure Rem 115JHP.

The bullet has been modified several times over the years and it now has a wider HP opening. Of the standard pressure 115JHP's in 9mm it may be a viable load but I don't know how it stacks up with its sister loads by Win, Fed or the Speer GDHP.

Far better than the 147 gr. garbage back in the 80's -90's.

As you can see, not a nickel's worth of difference between these three Speer loads.

    http://www.stoppingpower.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11929&SearchTerms=9mm,115,gr.,

The Win Ranger 115 gr. JHP (Std. vel.) clocks about 1,160 fps in a 4".

I have never shot the Rem. Std. Vel. nor their +p. I have shot several thousand of their old 115 gr. +p+ JHP years ago and it was a hot round then at over 1,300 fps easily. It was the carry round for the Secret Service years ago.

With the exception of the Speer 115 gr. Gold Dot, all these other Std. Vel. 115 gr. JHP's you mentioned usually worked better in a +4" barrel, e.g., G17, Browning Hi Power & Beretta 92. The British SAS used the Fed. BP against terrs in N. Ireland effectively.
