Is anybody using a usb hard drive enclosure ??

I have a spare HDD and I'm thinking I want to install it into a usb enclosure to use for backups, some file transfers etc...

A friend of mine has a USB/2 enclosure made by I/O Magic and is not really that impressed with it.

Any opinions/comments/recomendations on these types of products are appreciated.

    I have had this one:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=634757&CatId=1204

The one thing I didn't like about it is that it didn't muffle any of the noise from your hard drive, and the drive I had to put in it happened to be nice and loud.

So, I got one of these:
    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=306103&pfp=SEARCH

It's much quieter and has usb 2.0 and firewire.

The box on that one says that it will work with any 3.5" hard drive. Don't fall for that. It only works with 3.5" IDE drives.

I would pay a little extra and get a good one. I bought one when they first came out a few years back. It was more or less a piece of **** :(
