American naval ship the USS Nicholas captured five suspected pirates Thursday off the coast of the Seychelles after exchanging fire, according to the U.S. Naval Forces Africa. The Nicholas reported taking fire at 12:27 a.m. local time (8:27pm GMT Wednesday) from a suspected pirate skiff and returned fire before pursuing it and eventually disabling it. At 1:59 a.m. local time, crew from the Nicholas boarded the skiff, found ammunition and multiple cans of fuel and apprehended three men aboard. Two more suspected pirates were captured on the confiscated mother ship. The suspected pirates were taken on board the Nicholas and the skiff was sunk. The suspected pirates will remain in custody pending diplomatic decisions. Pirates have plagued the waters around the Seychelles with increasing regularity in recent years. They are often Somalian and hold crew and vessels for ransom.
After the Navy taking out the pirates in the lifeboat last year, wouldn't that make it US Navy 2 Pirates 0?
I surely hope "captured" means that the crew of the Nicholas pissed over the rail onto the burning wreckage of that POS pirate vessel as those who manned it sank slowly to the bottom of the ocean.
As a former Marine, and one who loves giving **** to the USN, I have to lay down the ego bull**** and say that I'm proud to have once served in a "department of the Navy".
I think about that line in Montry Python and The Holy Grail: "run away, run away!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l0xYc8zXvw
I would think one burst of fire from the Nicholas would have killed all aboard and sunk the pirate vessel. What do we do now play games with them.
I believe a common practice for Pirates was to walk the plank....yeah, that'll work....maybe keel hauling too (today's propellers would be hard on pirates)!! LOL
It's about time. I was really beginning to wonder. To bad we can't just sink them and let go at that. Now we got to feed them.
