I don't know how hard this would be to do, but how about a way to reorganize the forum list on the main page. It's not a big deal, just with all of the forums we have now it can sometimes be easy to miss the on I'm looking for.

Another option would be a customizable GT start page. You could have you favorite forums listed, stuff like that.

Like I said, not a big deal, just something that would be cool. :wavey:
Quite a bit of my changes will be centered around revamping the main page. In the mean time, the forum subscription system is a great way to keep track of the forums you are interested in. Eric

A site I just joined, that seems to be using vBulletin, has a chat servlet that hooks into the membership system. I fondly remember the days when GT had a chatroom. It'd be nice to have one again.

A chat system is one of the things I will be installing. Thanks for the suggestion. Eric

Eric, props on the blogs you have offered us on GT. How can we find the link to our blog on Glock Talk, to send to others online so that they can see our GT blogs? Also, can they see the blog even if they are not members? If not, then that would be something that would be neat to have. Users using their GT blogs as their main blog. I have mine linked on my facebook site and it shows up when I click on it but I think that might be because I am always logged into GT. ANy thoughts?

Also, the archive idea is great. Uzi talk has an UZI library and it is very neat and informative. We could comprise the same thing here with Glocks.

Hello. You can send someone a link to your profile. One of the tabs in your profile area is your blog and that is viewable to everyone, logged in or not. The easiest way for you to get to your own profile, to get the link, is to click on your name at the upper right of the page, where it says 'Welcome, Your Name'. Copy the URL from your profile page and send that to people. I intend to enhance that area of the site and integrate the blog content more fully into the site as well.

Several people have posted concerning old posts that were lost. They aren't gone, they just aren't on the site right now. I will work to reintegrate the important ones back into the live side of the site and when I can manage it, I will work to add the others to an archive system. I have backups of the database going back pretty far. Eric

Thanks for the response Eric. I think that he blog interface is a GREAT move. Making it more interactive and easier to get to would be a plus, IMO. I am going to start using it and making it my main journal. Thanks again Boss. Doing some good work here on GT!

Does the banner change based on time of day?
Yes. Sometimes it makes funny faces too, when you aren't looking. Eric

I like the new smaller format makes it easier to follow left to right without having to move the bar accross the bottom. Looking forward to your for sale section changes.

Eric, you know, I know, how frustrating people can be - So here's a +1 for all your hard work, everything looks great, and I consider my money here well spent ...:wavey:

hey Eric,

i have both a widescreen and an old squarescreen (800x600) and noticed that before the work began, the pages used to auto-compress in my squarescreen (columns got narrower/deeper, horizontal link list at top would stack if necessary) so i didn't have to use the horizontal scrollbar to get the full posts in my screen. as it is now on my squarescreen, when i get the whole post in the screen i lose the avatars on the left, and when i can see the avatars i lose the rightmost bit of the posts, so i'm constantly shifting side to side.

any chance of restoring the auto-squeeze function? not sure what kind of page editor you're using but i think it's a pretty easy option to set.

I can't seem to find it after the upgrade.
It is now called the Firearms Forums. It is near the top of the page and many of the firearms-related clubhouse forums are being relocated under it. Eric

As a site owner myself I can appreciate all the hard work thats being put into the site for all to use. With that said, I'm not sure if I'm digging the forum index page as this is the first time I'm seeing this(I cruise a good 15 forums regularly.) Have to give it some time. Also, I'm not seeing the "Non-Glock Forum"...or am I missing it? I'm also a fan of doing numerous smaller changes over time rather than a lot of changes at once. For a lot of users, big changes at once gets em confused so to speak and they're initial reaction is to lash out and say it all sucks.

Eric, I apologize if you have addressed this elsewhere and I missed it. I did look for it, though.

Being able to search the WantAds by zip code and radius would be really cool. It would eliminate several problems with that section and make it more user-friendly.

Eric,

I very much like the latest change with the TABS taking user to general areas. That's a good way to organize and it is very fast.

One suggestion re TABs: Have one tab bring up the 4-6 most popular subforums. Make that tab a different color.

Ad slots--
For your left skyscraper, suggest you stick with IAB standard 160x600.

See: http://www.iab.net/iab_products_and_industry_services/1421/1443/1452

I think most effective ad sizes (among stds) are 300 x 250 IMU - (Medium Rectangle), and 728x90 leaderboard. I've also seen some 600 wides. That would be a nice size to fit between thread entries. Some forum guy are doing this now... inserting a banner AFTER the first post in a thread.

Also consider exit ads (pop-unders). These pay well.

Prefer no-tabs, myself. I've perfected the proper # of pg-up, pg-dn's to get to where I need to. Now I have to find stuff all over again. LOL

Honestly, don't gussy it up for us. Do what YOU need to do to make it work best.

The changes to the main page are not being done for cosmetic reasons. The default setup for this and most other messages board systems is incredibly wasteful of space and resources on the front page. The purpose of the forum index mod was to put all/almost-all of the original forum index into a substantially smaller footprint. Now, i have the rest of the page for the new left column and for all the new content that is about to fill out the rest of the main index page.

The new layout will allow me to turn the main page into a more comprehensive start page for the site, it will require much less processing power to build each page and it will use much less bandwidth sending out the index page to everyone. Eric

I know I should have gone back to School, or at least Computer School!

Since its been asked, here is my feedback.

I write this with respect, but I have to state I do not like the new changes to the website. The casino was a nice change, but I dont see the need for social groups, an army war thing or woman's issues, etc.

I like things simple and easy and now there are more categories, sections and places. Sometimes more is better, but it is just too much for me.

I would rather like just a firearms area, non firearms and just a miscellaneous area. I would rather there be some consolidation, not more sections and areas. I come here for Glock information and some side stuff and that is all. I got other sites for the other the fluff stuff. Please bring back simple, bring back the basics.

Thank you for listening.
