Hello lads and lasses,
So this morning during my range session I broke the only weak part I’ve ever found on a Glock, the trigger reset spring.
This is admittedly only the 3rd one I’ve had break in almost 17 years with the G19’s but it is also the ONLY part I’ve broken in almost 17 years with the G19’s. It is however the first one I’ve had break in probably 10 years so I wasn’t real worried anymore till now.
I’ve had these parts for years and I think it’s time to find out if it’s all I’ve ever read about ( good and bad).
My thoughts on this are if this takes just one fraction of a chance away from a real inconvenient breakage smart money says do it. Anyway it’s a good day for a detail strip and clean so I’ll use this as a great excuse for a second range trip today.

Wow, a stoppage !

I am lurking this one, curious to what the others will add.

15 years running my G23.3 and never a single issue after thousands of rounds.

If you put an aftermarket spring in there it will break in like 5 minutes.

Politely disagree. Have shot thousands of rounds with the Wolf competition spring.

CH,
A broken trigger spring is only malfunction I have had with a Glock.
It is the piece most prone to breakage.

I thought most would get the sarcasm with the 5 minute part. ;)

A lot of people know I'm part of the it doesn't have to be all 100% Glock or it's unreliable brigade.

Don't panic-- one out of a ?million? users in the internet universe is not an epidemic!

Perhaps its that funny looking contraption on the left adding to the mystery. 3 is alot in the same gun, perhaps that contraption is the culprit.

I am going to predict there are going to many more who post that they have--- but the denominator will be unknown.

I have owned my G19 for 10x thousands of rounds without breaking any trigger return spring-- and I wash mine in water.

One of my G-19s had a NY1 spring in it, and I put a - connector in it yesterday.
Going to try it out tomorrow, and see how I like it.
Thinking about putting it in my G-23 that is my main carry.
Just dry firing it feels good. We will see.

The ny1 spring sucks, granted at the time I used the stock connector but it still was a mushy, sucky, something is not right kinda mess.
Good luck maybe you will like it.
IMO having backup parts is easy and changing them is also easy, too easy to accept the ny1 spring..

So I’ve got it cleaned and put back together. Not sure what I think. Trigger kinda reminds me of the hk45 I owned years ago. It’s very very smooth front to back. Just a slightly noticeable wall the a crisp break and a very positive reset.
Off to the range to function check and see if it’s “ shootable” as I’ve read some say it’s really bad.
As for the bit of what I’ll take as skepticism from some about a broken trigger spring, I don’t know what to tell you. Over 60k rounds in 17 years out of 9 g19s is an almost minuscule number of failures that I’ll bet no other manufacturers are coming close to but it does happen. This is the first I’ve seen on a Gen 4 as the first two were gens 2 and 3, however GLOCK knew it was the weak link or I’m guessing the would still be using them in the gen5.
Anyway off to the range.

If you like the NY trigger use it. I don't like them.

I've had one trigger spring break on a Gen1 G17 with about 17K on it. I took it to Glock an they replaced everything. I did buy a new barrel.

I’ve always been tempted to try the NY1, but I just replace the factory spring every year or so to be safe. It’s inexpensive insurance. Be sure to give us a follow up report.

Seems there are some on here that did not realize that this was a possible “weak link”. That’s why we post about commonly known issues, so the newer enthusiasts are aware.

While on that subject, there is another part that may need to be replaced more often than conventional wisdom suggests, at least on some guns. Gen3 Glock 19s and 23s made before about 2006 have a more fragile slide lock spring than those made later. You can visually tell the difference between the old one and the newer part. Unlike the trigger return spring, when the slide lock spring breaks you are SOL. The lock slide will eventually separate itself from the frame. I heard there are some .45 pistols with a similar issue, but I’ve only got experience with nines and .40s.

Some folks believe a Glock simply wont break. Probably a result of good marketing. When my slide and frame separated a couple of years ago during quals, some of the younger guys actually blamed me for incorrectly reassembling the gun. Every design has a weak link, but if you do your maintenance you can make sur the weak link is as strong as it can be and doesn’t become an issue. Still tempted by NY1 trigger.

FWIW, the Trigger Spring isn't the Trigger Reset Spring. It actually works against the reset process. The firing pin spring is what resets the trigger.

The Trigger Spring is the most frequent part on the Glock to break. Keep one and a punch in your range bag and you are covered for six sigma events when it comes to Glock failures. Or just change all your springs at say 20K round intervals. :)

This morning Mike M posted that that’s one of the major improvements of the GEN five. I would post a link to this if I knew how to do it. Not very computer savvy, so I usually take photos of interesting posts and store them for later reference.
