So, I’m a Glock guy. I really like the two I have, but I have a question. Actually, it’s been asked before but lots of models have been introduced.

In choosing an every day carry, my first criterion is that it will shoot and cycle every. Time. I. Pull. The. Trigger. No jams. No misfeeds. No stovepipes. No light primer hits. Just bang and cycle another live round into battery. After that, I have to be able to shoot it- it has to be accurate enough and I have to be able to be accurate enough with it. For me the G43 (for sub compact) and G30s (for compact) do just that.

But
1) my son doesn’t like my G43,
2) wants a .45,
3) I don’t want him to get an XDs,
4) wants sub compact or as close as he can get,
5) and he doesn’t like the S&W.

But he’s heard that the G36 is the least ‘reliable’ of the Glocks. Any truth to this? Suggestions?

He has heard untruths sir. It’s because (IMO) it is 6 rounds of .45 cal in a pocket pistol. Hard to tame.

My G17 gen 5 is 100% reliable. If I didn't have big hands and enough room (I'm 6'4") to conceal it, I'd get the G19, which most consider an ideal ccw. The velocity on 9mm ammo these days packs a serious punch, plus you can carry 17 rounds.

I think in this day and age (the crap bulk ammo day and age that is), your expectations might need adjustment.

If you added “premium SD ammo” or that and “premium practice ammo”, then I would say any new stock Glock should get you to the promised land.

I'm not normally that guy but in this case don't ask that question here. Go search the internet for Glock 36 Jams. Or whatever words you want to use.

The gun is POS in my opinion based on my own experience. Many will chime in and say well I've got 10 of them and they all run flawless. Well I'm not spending another 600 bucks to find one that works, sorry. That's all I got to say about that.

When the 36 came out there were some issues but now it's fine.

If this gun is for you why do you care what your son thinks?

The G43 is a fantastic ccw, so is the S&W Shield. Don't forget about the Walther PPS.

Nothing wrong with an XDs though.

Has that grip safety, not as reliable as a Sig, M&P, or Glock.

I personally have never owned a 36 but I haven't ever heard of them being unreliable either. I can say that out of the 60+ Glocks that I own/owned, not a single one of them have ever failed me.

As to my suggestion for a EDC gun, that would be a G19 all day every day. The G19 is the gold standard for CCW guns and I carry a Gen4 G19.

Perhaps I should clarify. I carry Hornady Critical Defense in .45 and I do most practice with Winchester white box ball ammo, in the 9mm I carry Winchester D and practice with Winchester T or white box. Never a single problem with either.

Also, the gun is for him. I’ll help him buy it and make suggestions, but ultimately he will have to choose what’s best for him.

I Think People Limp Wrist the G36, because of it's power to Size Ratio! And probably cycling problems Due To That. Then they Blame the Gun. I Had one when they first came out, changed the Recoil Spring with a Wolf 20 LB. I Think. Took care of the Problem!

My personal experience with 2 Glock 36's has been terrific. Just as reliable as my other Glocks and a great, very accurate shooter.

I have never owned or fired a G-36. When they first came out I looked at them, but never bought one.
I heard that they had some problems at first, but they have been corrected. So a new one should be fine.
Talk to him about the G-30 series, and check them out.
I plan to get a G-30S for my next Glock, same size as a g-23, well almost very small diff.
I personally carry a G-23, I like the round, and can carry more.
I carried a 1911, for 15 years as a LEO, I like the G-23 better, it can carry more rounds, and has proved to be a good round.
