What's the softest recoiling .40 minor set-up to run? I'm using a G22 with a KKM 4 port comp., but don't like the fact of having to take off the comp. to take the barrel out. I'm also getting jams with hi-cap mags (round sticking nose-up and getting caught between slide and chamber) that I'm contributing to the comp. Does anyone make a ported extended barrel that works with minor loads (lonewolf, Fire Dragon)? I was also thinking of a 24C top end, but I shoot lead. Or should I go with just straight weight and get a 24 top end and forget about comps. and ports? Thanks for any info. The Steel Challenge is coming-up quick and I need to get a reliable open gun up and running.

I tried the comp routine back when I was using .40 and the only way to make them work right is to make gas. Same for a ported barrel like the 24C. What works well with a .40 with a standard barrel, is 3.8 or 4.0 of WST behind a 180gr bullet, I used either the Zero FMJ or a WestCoast plated. Light recoil, and accurate to boot.

My G24C likes a 180-gr FMJ over 4.0-gr of WST, Federal primers and a 12# spring.

    Fireglock,
Would you recommend a longer slide like a 35 or 24 to add more weight? I have a pretty light .40 load I use for Steel challenge (155 gr. SWC with 3.8gr. of N320). I did have to up my load to make the comp. work (same bullet with 4.5 gr. of N320). I may just try my 35 upper on my open lower with the light load. My main concern right now is reliability. I figured the gun cost me a total of 5 seconds yesterday, due to jams.:(

I'm partial to a longer slide myself. For GSSF I use a 17L and I do love my 24C. I would try your 35 top end. I keep thinking about a steel gun but I think I'll go with a 34 and 9MM. :)

Just our of curiosity, does the 24 slide have the same cut out the the 24C,34,35's have?

The 24 and 24C use the same slide.
