Hey folks, I'm just wondering if this is a scam or not. I got a foot-long white envelope in the mail today, and it says "US Department of Commerce, Economics and Statistics Administration, US Census Bureau" in the upper left corner, with my address in the center. It says "To the resident of" and then has my address. But it does not feature my name anywhere. On the center-left of the envelope, below the senders address, it has a black-lined box that says "The American Community Survey", and then below that it says, in bold, "Your Response Is Required By Law". In the lower left portion of the envelope, it says "United States Census" in small font. I've lived on my own since I was 18, and I've never gotten anything like this in the mail. I haven't opened the envelope. Is this real, and if so, why is this "required by law"?
