Hello,
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
As the title reads, I'm a little undecided on which new magazines I want to get for my 1911. I've looked at the Wilson Combat 8 rounders and the Chip McCormick 8 rounders and I really don't know which ones to get. Any experience and recommendations on those two will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Other than lacking a fancy logo, what's wrong with Springfield (Metalform) factory mags? I've got a couple dozen, and have never had a mag-related issue wih one. Base pads can be had for those that don't come from SA so-equipped.

I'm no saying they're superior to any other brand (except Wilson), but for $15 or less, it's pretty hard to find fault with them--except the lack of logo.

Added: my $15 price for SA mags related to the "coupon" prices, which is the only way I've bought SA mags. I just took a look at SA's on-line store prices, and cripers, I think they've had a price increase or two. Still good mags, but not the value that the represented previously.

I'm still using four Springfield mags (with Ed Brown pads I put on) in my SA Loaded when I bought it in 2005. Never an issue from them. They are getting pretty scratched up.

I also use 8rd Wilson 47D and CMC. Never an issue from them either.

I use Tripp mags. They are great! I have had MecGar mags that were such garbage to the point I got rid of the mags and the gun they came with. I have Checkmates for my Guardian, the two that came factory, and 2 more I bought. I have had no issues so far with them. I hear great things about McCormick mags as well. Never owned any personally, but several people I know love them.

I have 1911 mags out the wazoo.
Many of them from the very cheapest USGI surplus magazines, to the very so called best magazines.

The Wilson's and McCormick magazines hardly ever get used, while the 7 round 10 dollar Metalform magazines get used in everything.

Of the two mags I got with my MC Operator last week, one had out of spec feed lips. Didn't even bring them to th range used my tried and true CMC 8 rounders. Gonna pick up some with the base pads soon. If CMC's didn't work perfectly for me I'd get some Tripp's. Have heard mixed things about the Wilson followers.

I like Tripp the best. VERY strong springs and a great follower that eliminates tilt. Plus, it has a metal insert for the slide stop lever so it won't wear out.

Thanks for all the feedback and PMs. I picked up a couple of CMC Power Mags this morning and tested them out earlier with no problems to report. I know I can always count on the knowledge base from my fellow GTers! :cool:

I have four of the PowerMags and they work pretty well. Now, I have some of the older Shooting Stars (base of the line Chip McCormick) 8-rounders of which the followers tend to follow the last rounds out now and then.:faint:

One of these days I'll get a new follower/spring kit from Tripp Research to replace them with.
