Okay so I have an extra factory guide rod spring but no guide rod for it.

How could I switch that one out with the captured one I have in my G23, because it's getting a little weak?

Would it be okay to leave it uncaptured if I actually could switch the springs?

I've shot Glocks for years, I just never thought about this.

Thank you in advance.

Personally, Ive never tried this, but I have been told, more than once, that you can pull the end off the factory guide rod, change out the spring, and push the end back in and it will stay. But dont take my word for it, like I said, Ive never tried it myself!

Just pop the cap off the original guide rod and replace the spring. Put the cap back on or not, it makes no difference. The only thing having the spring "captured" does is make it a little easier to reassemble.

Or, it's super easy to just make a spare guide rod out of a 1/4" stainless bolt. Chuck it up in a drill and grind the head down to the appropriate dimensions then chop it off. Takes 10 minutes.

Thanks a lot! I was just being cheap, trying to find a way to save $6-$7. :whistling:

Also, if I can find someone with the equipment I will try that! :wavey:

Wait, you don't have a drill and a Dremel? Are you sure you're really a man.

A S&W MP 9 RSA is the same length as a G17 RSA. The Spring is held on those by a small hex bolt that's locktited in. You could remove the spring & cut the rod to G23 length and you'll have your very own stainless steel G23 guide rod. The M&P RSA costs a whoppin' 8 bucks.

Wow, I wonder if the area on the opposite end the contacts the barrel is the same? :dunno:

I do have a Dremel....

Actually, I have a 19.2 volt Craftsman drill, none of that 18 volt silliness for me.
That's all you need. Maybe some sandpaper if you want to get fancy. Chuck it up, grind the head, chop it off. One guide rod in about 10 mins for a total outlay of a dollar.

Yes, it's the same diameter. It fits and runs perfectly in a G17. The only difference is the M&P spring weight is 16 pounds & the Glock's is 17 lbs. There's a picture comparing them in post two here.http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1358730

Oh heck yes, I'll be heading to Lowe's within a couple days to check this out. I'll probably buy 4-5 just to experiment because I'm sure I can muck this up at least 3 different ways. Thank you. :wavey:
