Live in Il with stupid FOID card (firearm owner Ident)

Just opened lefter from state police saying it is revoked because of a current controlled substance charge. I am ordered to surrender it immediately. Obviously this is a mistake, have not had an interaction with police since 1975, misdemeanor.. My wife laughed but this ticks me off.

So now I have to prove the negative. Going to local state patrol office in am to see what the misunderstanding is.

Hmm, interesting. Just more reason to leave this awful state!

Best of luck getting it cleared up.

If you give up the card, does that mean that you cannot posess any firearms, or is the card just required for purchases?

Excatly, fortunately wife has a card so we would still be legal. Otherwise I guess I would have to get them to BIL while I straighten it out if it comes to that.

You cannot be in possession of firearms or ammunition.

    Punishment is a felony.

I'm just so wacked about this, don't know if I will sleep.

I'm like a mild mannered, conservative IT executive.

    Wait!

You live in a state that requires you to get a "special little card" to own AMMUNITION and the part you find unbelievable is that the local constabulary made a clerical error.

    Interesting.

That thought crossed my mind, but not sure what it would get me. Sucks because I was just selling I pistol to BIL so I could go buy two more. Was going to do that tomorrow, guess not.

I know. We have to pay to have a back ground check done and then issued a card to exercise our 2nd amendment rights here.

Last year the state police were trying to raise the price of the FOID because they were whining about not making a big enough profit off of us.

    Poor poor them!

Keep it in your wallet and say you left it at home. That way if something bad happens you can say oh wait, here it is.

If it was true I was charged with felony you would be correct, but there is no truth in that, there are no charges of any kind.

Just the absence of the card (with no charges) is not a problem. No different if I had the card and she did not, she is not in violation,

I would actually call first and not go in.

If they are saying that there is a controlled substance issue who's to say they won't arrest you right there.

Obviously that's the worst case scenario, but I would call prior to even stepping foot in there. If something comes out of the phone call (Meaning it turns out bad) I would contact a lawyer and get legal advise.

    That's just me.
