For some time now I've been unable to view any .wmp files (and I believe others such as .asp?) when I click on a link. My Windows Media Player (8.0) works fine when I open it. I am able to view Quick Time movies, whatever they are (.mpi?).

Any ideas on what I should check or change?

    Thanks.

    Quicktime movies are .mov files.

.asp files are "active server pages". Basically, they're web pages. Windows media player does not open them, internet explorer does.

The latest version of media player is 10, try upgrading and see how that works for you.
