Making UBC a requirement almost has to require an initial mass registration to "work". In other words, everything could become an NFA Item and if you get caught unregistered, you face the penalty. Red Flag and UBC is such a slippery slope, as is "how do you vet a mental person". Wait...this sounds like Canada.

Lord knows I'm not a fan of UBCs. At all. I really don't see them pushing registration concurrently with background checks. The history of mass noncompliance is there to see in NY and CT. It wouldn't accomplish it's goal and IMO, would crank up the temperature too much and too quickly on the "frog in the pot".

Just passing UBC creates a non-centralized registry going forward. It's a big step in gun control by itself. The chance to be charged in "stings" will create an incentive to quit trading guns privately. In the months/years to come we'll see the noose tighten more.

It seems likely to me that UBCs will pass at the federal level under Trump. He had Manchin at the WH today to discuss guns and the DOJ was reported to send a "package" of gun control measures to Trump a few days ago. Having gun legislation pass under a republican President is truly a gift for the democrats.

On a personal level, it doesn't effect me. I've never sold a gun.

As a matter of politics, gun advocates need to stop saying no to everything and figure out what they can support.

It's better to be part of the solution than to have it foisted on us.

Gun owners are in the minority. The NRA has its own internal issues right now. Its still the gorilla in the room, but not the 500 pound gorilla it used to be.

Add to that, Trump isn't the staunch 2A guardian most of us counted on.

Gun owners need to grab a seat at the table to negotiate a solution.

You seem to think gun control proponents are willing to negotiate. I don't believe that at all. They only want the one-way ratchet to tighten. They call this a "compromise" by gun owners. They love to ask, Why won't gun owners "compromise" on background checks (i.e. the gunshow loophole, their term), why won't gun owners "compromise" on a ban of certain sporting rifles (i.e. AWB, their term), why won't gun owners "compromise" on magazines holding more than 7 or 10 rounds (i.e. high capacity mags, their term)? These are all things the gun control pushers want gun owners to simply give up, with no benefit in return. That's not negotiation, or compromise. It's capitulation.

There was a time when there was no background check at all. There was a time when there was no Form 4473. There was a time when there was no age limit. There was a time when you ordered firearms —- even Thompson SMG’s from Sears and Roebuck and they shipped to your home. There was a time I lived through, FWIW, when we drove to High School in our pickup trucks during hunting season with rifles and shotguns in our gun racks. No school shootings occurred. No Wal Marts were shot up and no one was driving around with an illegally made and sold AR-15 killing people.

We have numerous gun laws on the books and they are ineffective and UBC’s will be too. Then the liberals will clamor for more gun control. Naive conservatives will then make more compromises.

Negotiating with Hitler. That worked out really well.

Once the 2nd Amendment is gone it ain't coming back.

Seems like you’re willing to negotiate a compromise.
What concessions would you request in return for UBC’s?

Ok I get it now. The LGS's here are big and they lobby. Follow the money.

So Joe and Sam meet up at Carter's Country to buy/sell.

Joe transfers his G19 to Carter's, they charge Joe a $35 transfer fee.
Then Sam buys the gun from Carter's at a mark up plus the $35 transfer fee.

I live in the DFW area and Texas is rapidly changing. I am not 100% sure Trump will carry Texas in 2020. If Texas flips to Blue we are in a world of trouble.

He's just getting on the Trump bandwagon. After all, in the words of Karl Rove, what are you going to do, vote democrat?

I've said my piece. I like having input in my destiny.

You can get a seat at the table and have a voice in the outcome.
Or, you sit outside and hold your breath until you turn blue.

All the fudds want to compromise. They can't even enforce the laws they have on the books now. New ones strip more freedoms.

If the average Texan doesn’t find his new stance objectionable then you know just how far these killings have moved public sentiment in the rest of the country. Fixing to get real.

I've only purchased one shotgun from a person, so UBC aren't a concern of mine. I oppose it and won't vote for Trump after he signs it, because I know they won't stop there. But if we come out with just UBC, we'll probably be lucky.

There is no solution. You can keep giving them all the compromises you want but their end game is to take all guns one compromise at a time.
