"Trump administration bars ambassador from testifying about Trump-Ukraine pressure campaign

by ASSOCIATED PRESSTuesday, October 8th 2019

WASHINGTON (AP) — An attorney for Ambassador Gordon Sondland says the State Department has directed Sondland not to appear for his scheduled interview before a joint House committee taking depositions in the impeachment probe of President Donald Trump.

Sondland is wrapped up in the congressional impeachment inquiry and had previously agreed to appear voluntarily Tuesday to answer the committee’s questions in a closed session.

Sondland attorney Robert Luskin says that as the sitting U.S. ambassador to the European Union and an employee of the State Department, Sondland is required to follow the department’s direction. No reason for the direction was cited, he said.

No choice because he is an employee of The State Department.

This was a bad move by The President because it is obstruction of justice. When The President obstructs Congress’s oversight function, during an impeachment investigation, it violates his constitutional obligation to take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.

The State Department must have a reasonable basis for blocking his testimony. Its a huge leap to say the President is obstructing justice without knowing facts behind the decision. Liberal talking points usually are without merit. Let's see how this plays out.

Yes, the Democrats are wailing "Obstruction!" and etc., but was there a subpoena???

(And if there wasn't, why volunteer to participate in their inquisition?)

Obstruction of justice? This is an entirely partisan affair.

Imagine for a moment that back in 2013, when the Republicans controlled the House, Boehner just stepped up to the microphone one day and said we're initiating an impeachment inquiry into Barack Obama, for his handling of Benghazi. First subpoena is for Hillary Clinton to testify before the House Intelligence Committee. Would Obama be obstructing justice if he said no?

This is not a formal impeachment inquiry. The Republicans have had zero say in this.

He tweeted this for his reason and it does not appear to be a mastermind plan. It is not difficult to see the obstruction of justice by The President.

How does any of this excuse President Trump’s obstruction? He admits using his position to block an investigation about him, regardless if he agrees or disagrees. The Constitution does not change because you do not like someone.

I just spent an hour listening to Bangino's take on it. Basically Trump is daring them to take the vote..............either way is a win for the side of truth.

Lying democrats are not into real justice. If they go the wrought of impeachment, they sink their own ship.

The statement said they learned Tuesday morning from Sondland’s attorneys that the State Department left a voicemail at 12:30 a.m. telling them he could not appear. Further, they said the attorneys reported that Sondland turned communications sought by the committees over to the department, which “is withholding them from the Committees, in defiance of our subpoena to Secretary [Mike] Pompeo.”

An attorney for Sondland also said in a statement that the order not to appear came from the State Department. Attorney Robert Luskin said Sondland, who had agreed to appear voluntarily for the closed session, is required to follow the department's direction. No reason for the direction was cited, he said.

So impeach......take the vote.....take it to real litigation.

You know why they are not? The dirty ones are the dems, and not just a few. Oh, and they know it. The truth hurts the liar

It is never a good plan to obstruct justice. Rarely, this is done because someone is telling the truth, and can it can be used against you.

I also believe The President is doing this to push a House vote; however, that House vote could be an impeachment vote, and not the impeachment inquiry vote he believed is required. In the Constitution, an impeachment inquiry vote is not required.

Well force it to impeachment then.

They won't because the Republicans get to litigate the matter and the truth comes out. The Democrats don't want the Biden's on the stand.

The president is telling them to get real. They will balk.

Watch that Bangino thread, you'll see where I'm coming from

You honestly believe they can vote him out without litigating it?
