I don't think Trump really cares about the 2a as long as he can be elected without it. We really need to have a good case that settles some key issues before the court goes left.

I suspect he considers the 9th Circuit a lost cause, and thinks he's throwing a bone to the Dems. Who will in all likelihood block the nomination, just because it's Trump's, even though the judge may agree with the liberal ideology. Or, he's giving the GOP the chance to block it. We'll see.

Putting a pro-2nd Amendment judge on the 9th will never happen, and it won't change anything there even if it did.

Now, if he puts an anti-2nd Amendment judge, who won't follow Heller, on another Circuit, where the issue is up in the air, or where the Appeals Court has ruled favorably on the 2nd Amendment, sure, I'll be torqued.

But remember, the GOP sent him that God-awful spending bill which they knew he'd have to sign to get his spending for Defense. This might be a little payback. Just a reminder to the GOP that "you can be replaced, you know." Trump will work with the Dems if they'll give him what he wants on his key issues. The GOP should be careful.

There are pro gun judges on the 9th now and there is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be able to get another one.

Yeah, no, unacceptable. President Trump needs to be playing to the people who voted for him. An anti 2nd judge isn’t getting it done. He doesn’t have to do put this judge up, but he is. By placating the left he is alienating the conservatives and then everyone will hate him, me included if he doesn’t do a whole lot more to help the second amendment.

A former AG who opposed Heller is absolutely unacceptable. It would be a major betrayal.

This is exactly what I warned against in the primary. Trump has no core conservative principals to guide his decisions. If he takes a conservative position it is because he thinks it's in his best interest at the moment. The only way to keep him in check and on the right path is by pushing back when he does stuff like this.

Totally unacceptable. I can see the argument not to waste his creme of the crop names off the list given to him for the 9th. Trump could have at least put in a young, solid conservative.

When I pulled the lever for Trump in the general, court picks were at or very near the top of my expectations. Especially at the Circuit & Supreme level, each appointment will influence the country far after Trump is gone.

Trump is pissing down the backs of his base. Gun control, spending, judges, Tpp, Syria.
It's been entertaining but he got mired in the swamp.

Trump couldn't care less about his base, it's all about him, all the time. Let's try to keep this thread on page 1, so the "Always Trumpers" can be reminded of his treachery.

Seriously, do you know anyone here that thinks Trump can do no wrong?

It take a simple mind to form a false worship/hate dichotomy.

Since early in the Primaries, we’ve all talked about the fact that Trump is not perfect on the 2A. He even once supported an AWB.

For the thousandth time, he’s no messiah. He’s just a lot better than the alternative was. Still is.

Stop it, it isn't about her, it's about Trump keeping his promises.

This argument is moot. It’s also getting tiresome.
It’s like saying he’s better than, _________________, (fill in the blank with your favorite despot.)
