There is a campground at the end of the lake, and just across the road from the campground is a golf course where the 2nd and 9th greens are close to the road. The road is a fairly busy 2 lane that gets a lot of truck traffic from Canada and logging operations.

Seems that a lot of truckers take joy in hitting the jake brake as they roll past to tweak up the campers and golfers. The sound travels down the lake and when I'm sleeping with the windows open, is wicked annoying to say the least. During the day, I hardly notice it. The state put up a sign like "PLEASE NO JAKE BRAKE" but seems this just made things worse as there is no law against it.

Any truckers out there who will admit to using the device just for fun??

Get some black people to complain about how the sound equates out to racial injustice. Then magically a law will be passed and those evil jake brakers stopped.

    Hey Fire Pig........ #MeToo.
I have a what I call a baby jake in my 6.6 Duranax. Occasionally I engage it if the pick up bed is loaded and I'm going down a hill. I don't need to but I want to.

    Good question.

Recently I was stuck in a traffic jam next to truck that was constantly hitting the jake brake every few seconds. Was it an idiot or was something wrong with the truck?

I had my window up so it did not hurt my ears but I had the urge to suddenly pull out an air horn to blast.

There is a no jake brake ordinance in the commercial area of my little town but I am not sure how well it is enforced.

You don’t really “ hit it “ , just take your foot off the accelerator .

Are jake brakes still installed on new trucks from the factory?

I thought they were being phased out, starting years ago.

After 33 years riding and gliding a class 8 truck. There is a time and place to use engine brakes ! Is your house or golf course on the side of a steep downgrade ? 4% or more ? If yes then just enjoy the sound of my people. Most drivers with an IQ over 50 only use when needed. Currently running team truck I don’t use em.

The end of the lake is kind of in a "hollow", but not a steep hill coming into it from either direction. I just think that they love to mess with the campers or if they see somebody putting on the green.

They see other folks having fun and enjoying the weather while they are stuck bouncing down the road in the cabs of their rigs. I can't say that I blame them for having a little poke at us...think I'd do the same.

At least they are not helping with the air horns while teeing. Heh Heh Heh . I would love to have some train horns on my pick up.

They come with it from factory, even medium duty pick ups come now with an exhaust brake, not to be confused with a JakeBrake but it helps too, if you’re coming down a mountain with a fully loaded truck and you loose your jakes you’re in trouble.
Brakes alone are not enough for them big hills, you’ll smoke them before you make it down unless you knew from the beginning of the descent that your jakebrake was inoperable and put a lower gear from the beginning.
