I'm coming closer to selecting the final three handguns for self defense. I no longer hunt upland game, waterfowl or big game and I seldom take long hikes in the wilderness; no more backpacking, mountain climbing, canoeing or camping out. Therefore, no need for a large caliber handgun. Also, no need for a shotgun, scoped rifle or tactical long gun.

As of this point, I've narrowed my choices to three: a Glock 19-4, a Glock 43 and a Ruger LCP2. The 19 has a Streamlight TLR-1 HL for the bedside, early morning walks (pre-dawn) and CC or car duties if I'm heading someplace unknown or think I'll be out late at night, which isn't very likely because I'm usually in bed before 9.

The 43 is just so darn handy tucked between the driver's seat and center console and can easily be slipped behind my belt prior to exiting the vehicle for shopping, dining, movies, etc.

For deep cover, the LCP really fills the bill in my right front pocket or in a Smart Carry holster setup.

I have confidence in the reliability of each gun and with only three I don't have to wonder where I left any one of them (an issue at my age of 67).

Three seems about right for this moment. How about you?

In the name of all that is good and holy....DO NOT get a 9MM. You will not be able to protect yourself. We all know people don't die after being shot with a 9mm projectile.

This is the ONLY weapon guaranteed to give you the "one shot stop":

Big Brother - Actually, I used to guard some even better one-shot stoppers: they were called Nike Hercules air defense missiles ... but I think they'd work pretty well against miscreants. (A bit of overkill, maybe, if any friendlies were nearby.):waving:

Same question to rfd: I used to shoot a G35 in IDPA matches before switching back to 9mm and concentrating on CC guns (although I know some people CC the 'Practical Tacticals like the G34s and 35s). If you do shoot in action pistol matches, how is it working for you?

I have a lot more than 3 because I’ve got them hidden throughout the loft, not just in the bedroom. Plus a PCC as my preferred HD option.

Then of course a Tavor X95 for SHTF.

Unfortunately, I’ve pretty much covered all my bases at this point. No more excuses to buy guns.

Do you shoot the G35 in competition? USPSA or IDPA?

No I never have. I bought it because I love the way it shoots. It and my g21 is the softest shooting glocks I own. It's been super reliable. Have to add, my S&W M&P 2.0 fde 9mm 5in is beginning to be my favorite shooting 9mm.

I can have 5 on permit but if only allowed 3 it would be G19, G43, and S&W J frame. The J frame is for the pocket carry days, maybe 5% of time. Glock 19 hiking, travel and maybe 10% of time. Glock 43 other 85% of time.
I agree...my 3rd would definitely by a j frame in either .38 Special +P or .357 Magnum over the Ruger LCP. I have no issue with the LCP, in fact I have a Gen 1 model, but just feel better carrying my S&W Model 442.

(Sigh). If only I shot the j-frames as well as the LCP2. I can place rounds with the LCP, not so with the j-frames. It's a personal thing about the triggers and amount of practice/ammo I'd dedicate to mastering the j-frames (and I've owned a few).
