BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- WFTV obtained 911 calls from an incident where three teen girls were hit and killed by a train. The calls and eyewitness accounts give a better idea of how the tragic train accident happened over the weekend.

The Southwest Middle School students were on a Melbourne bridge Saturday evening, but when a train came they didn't jump out of the way. The bridge is over Crane Creek, off the Indian River near US-1.

Melbourne police have identified two of the girls killed as Jennifer Reichert, 15, and Ciara Lemn,14, both of Palm Bay.

Wow, it took me a good 2 minutes to decipher that.

First I thought he meant unidentifiable, but later decided that he just shortened that into unIDable = un ID(identity) able.

You know...call me cold and callous, but if you don't know, after age 12, that you don't play on an active railroad track....then you know what? There's just no hope for you.

The reports I've seen so far have said that they were "goofing around." I believe it.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: in the end, Darwin will come and call his Children Home. That train is never late.

The news reports kept repeating "alligator infested waters" like that
would be a reason not to jump.
I doubt the girls were thinking of alligators.
They froze due to the height and chose being ran over rather than the uncertaintly of a (high) jump.
In reality it wasn't that high, but hindsight is 20/20.
If they jumped no doubt they would have lived. Gators or no Gators.

Just about all young kids do things that could kill them on a bad day. It's just that not all kids have that bad day.

Whether playing on train tracks is a brilliant thing to do or not, it's a shame whenever a couple kids that age die for something like that. What were they doing on the tracks in the first place? Why weren't they at home, at school, doing something halfway constructive (or at least supervised)?

And -- "stupid games, stupid prizes" moment or not -- life's got to be pretty crap right now for the one teenage boy that made it away, while those three didn't.

I used to live about a half hour from there, and know that area pretty good.

For one, the bridge is not high at all, for two, it is a one way rail bridge, and for three, there are no alligators there.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you shouldn't be anywhere near the railroad tracks, let alone a one way railroad BRIDGE, and why they out unsupervised like that?

It is a shame that they died senselessly, but it makes you wonder.

This is what get's me that is not the nicest part of town, It's a really bad part of town! I have done alot of work in the building right next to where it happend an I had them make me my own parking spot just so my tools would be there when i was done work for the day. I had my work truck stolen from me not 2 blocks from there a few years ago. IMO even if they made it to the other side of that bridge they were walking into a world of trouble.
